A Message from the Director

Happy 4 th of July!

We are enjoying our friends from the Fellowship of Reconciliation this week.  The National Organization is celebrating their 100th birthday here.  FOR published a book for their centennial and there are some Seabeck pictures and stories in it.  It nice to know we played a little part in their history.  They have come here for 58 straight years.

We are empty on Tuesday.  The summer schedule usually allows for an empty day somewhere in early July.  Seabeck becomes a war zone on the 4th, so it's nice when the schedule allows us to be empty.  The last empty day here was June 15th.  The next one, September 22nd.  October 2016 doesn't have one empty day.  Looks like the secret is out.  Seabeck Conference Center is getting very popular!

The Seabeck Mercantile opened last week.  The Seabeck logo items are flying off the shelves!  We even take credit cards to make the shopping sprees easier.  The best part will be wearing your Seabeck apparel around is that you will be amazed how many people will stop you and say "Seabeck?  I go to Seabeck!"  I wear a SCC vest all winter and I'm amazed how many people have talked to me about it.  I always chuckle when they ask if I have been there before.  "I've been there a couple times," is always my answer.  I even had a woman yell, "Hey Seabeck!" at me in the lobby of a conference center outside of Fredrick, Maryland.

I wrapped up my year as Silverdale Rotary President on June 30th.  It was a good year and I had a lot of fun.  I want to thank the Seabeck Staff for picking up any slack left here while I was representing the club at various events and meetings.  I look forward to the near future where we just have a multi-million dollar Capital Campaign to worry about. HAHA

I hope to see you all soon at Seabeck!
Chuck

You Know You're from the Pacific Northwest when...

  • You know more than 10 ways to order coffee.
  • You feel guilty throwing aluminum cans in the trash.
  • You say "sun break" and know what it means.
  • You know more people who own boats rather than air conditioners.
  • You feel overdressed wearing a suit to a nice restaurant.
  • You stand on a deserted corner in the rain waiting for the "Walk" signal.
  • You consider that if it has no snow or has not recently erupted, it is not a real mountain.
  • You can taste the difference between Starbucks, Seattle's Best, and Veneto's.
  • You know how to pronounce Sequim, Puyallup, Issaquah, Yakima and Willamette.
  • You used to live somewhere else but won't admit it in public.
  • You can tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese and Thai food.
  • In the the winter, you go to work and come home in the dark, while only working an 8-hours.
  • You never go camping without waterproof matches and a poncho.
  • You are unfazed by weather forecasts that show only "showers followed by rain".
  • You have no concept of humidity without precipitation.
  • You know that Boring is a town in Oregon and not just a state of mind.
  • You can point to at least two volcanoes, even if you cannot see through the cloud cover.
  • You notice, "The mountain is out" when it is a pretty day and you can actually see it.
  • You put on shorts when the temp gets above 50°, but still wear your hiking boots and parka.
  • You switch to your sandals when it gets about 60°, but keep the socks on.
  • You have actually used your mountain bike on a mountain.
  • You think people who use umbrellas are either wimps or tourists.
  • You buy new sunglasses every year, because you can't find the old ones.
  • You design your kid's Halloween costumes to fit under a raincoat.
  • You know the difference between Chinook,Coho, and Sockeye salmon.
