A Tribute to former Reinhardt President Dr. Allen O. Jernigan
One of Reinhardt's most esteemed leaders was laid to rest in a private service in June. The Rev. Dr. Allen O. Jernigan passed away June 8, 2016. He was 93.
An ordained minister, Dr. Jernigan led Reinhardt as its president from July 1, 1973 to March 14, 1984. While he did not earn a degree from Reinhardt, he was bestowed Honorary Alumnus title in 1987. Dr. Jernigan is remembered as a laid back leader who always lent his support to those at the institution of higher education. ...

Etowah Valley MFA summer readings are free and open to the public
The first summer residency of Reinhardt University's Etowah Valley MFA kicks off this month and includes readings and special events that are free and open to the public.
Noted authors include award-winning poet Adrian Blevins; Tony Grooms, author of the novel Bombingham; Ann Hite, author of the novel Where the Souls Go; Stephen Corey, poet and editor of the Georgia Review; Will Wright, poet, editor, and 2016 Georgia Author of the Year for Tree Heresies; and Canton native David Bottoms who won the Walt Whitman Prize for poetry in 1979 with the publication of Shooting Rats at the Bibb County Line and served as Georgia's Poet Laureate from 2000-2012. ...

RU musical theatre camp opens enrollment for high schoolers
Reinhardt University's School of Performing Arts faculty will host a musical theatre summer camp for rising high school freshmen through recent high school graduates this month.
In its first year, the camp is geared at providing collegiate level training to those interested in the performing arts.
The camp, led by music instructor Brian Osborne, will include training in vocals and acting, with a final cabaret performance at the Falany Performing Arts Center. ...

With a strong foundation in athletic excellence both on and off the field, Reinhardt University is proud to announce its inaugural class of inductees to the Reinhardt Athletics Hall of Fame.
The creation of the Reinhardt Athletics Hall of Fame was announced in March, and nominations were sought for former athletes, coaches, teams and special contributors for their athletic achievements, professional achievement and/or their distinguished service to the athletic program. A committee was formed to review the nominations and select from the pool of highly deserving candidates.
"The nine individuals and one team that we will be inducting provide an outstanding representation of the history of our athletic department," said RU Director of Athletics
Bill Popp.
"We are pleased with the selections that were made by our Hall of Fame Committee and feel that this class will be a tremendous way to begin our Hall of Fame." ...
