Happy summer! With school coming to a close and summer beginning, Technology for Tomorrow has a lot of opportunities for community service and volunteerism.

CommYOUnity Tech Talk Recap

On Saturday, May 7th 75 community members came to F.H.T. Middle School, South Burlington to attend the Tech Talk. Volunteers from AARP Vermont's Fraud Watch Network , Small Dog Electronics and Technology for Tomorrow led presentations covering Internet Safety and Fraud Watch, Intro to iPhone/iPad, and Intro to Facebook, respectively.  

One attendee said of the event, "It was really great...The fraud workshop was very important for me and I really needed to know what I learned [at the workshop]. It has already changed my behavior."

In fact, feedback was so positive T4T will be partnering with Small Dog Electronics and AARP Vermont again for another event in October! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more information about signing up!

A big "Thank You!" to our new partners!



AT&T Williston will be assisting Technology for Tomorrow  in facilitating workshops.  Employees of the Williston branch have signed up to lead five workshops in three different senior centers!  The AT&T employees will bring their "tech-spertise" to each workshop and will also be working with T4T to help update and develop curriculum.  

The Association of Africans Living in Vermont  (a resource for new Americans and refugees living in Burlington) will be generously hosting Technology for Tomorrow workshops this summer in their building on Allen St. T4T is looking forward to working with this new partner to being technology education to even more Vermonters.

South Burlington High School class of 2016
Elizabeth will put her scholarship money toward her tuition at Concordia University when she starts school this fall.

Mehul Shah
South Burlington High School class of 2017
Mehul will apply his scholarship to college tuition in 2017 after graduating from SBHS.

Nathan Kakalec
South Burlington High School class of 2017
Nathan will apply his scholarship to college tuition in 2017 after graduating from SBHS.

Wyatt LaBerge
Mount Mansfield Union High School class of 2018
Wyatt will use his scholarship to attend an educational camp this summer for teens on the autism spectrum.

Reid Kamhi
Essex High School class of 2016
Reid will put his scholarship money toward his college tuition at Rochester Institute of Technology this fall.

Rutland, Vermont
Big Picture Moment
Each quarter we take a moment to look at and learn from major news going on around us.

Last month, the Rutland Mayor, Christopher Louras, announced that 100 Syrian refugees would be resettled in Rutland, Vermont starting in October. The city is well suited for these refugees as it has jobs and housing waiting to be filled, with a school district eager to help. While the announcement was met with some pushback, it was well received by the majority of Rutland, a city already composed of many immigrants.
 
Amila Merdzanovic, director of the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program, stated, "85 percent of employable adults are self-sufficient within eight months of resettling." T4T is determined to make this transition smoother by connecting refugees and new Americans to free technology education.  With our free technology workshops, we will provide the basic computer and social media skills expected both in day-to-day life and in the workforce. Furthermore, with the growing capabilities of the Internet, we aim to provide a way for refugees to feel connected with their own culture, family and friends while adjusting to living in Vermont.

Walk to End Alzheimer's!


Technolo g y F or  Tomorrow will be par ticipating in  The  Wa lk to End Alzheimer's at the Shelburne Museum  in partnership wit h the Desai Management Consulting team.  We ask for your support in helping us raise funds that will be donated to Alzheimer's research . Every dollar donated will be matched by Desai Management Consulting.

Welcome to our Intern, Ali!

A rising senior at South Burlington High School, Ali Barritt will be joining the T4T team this summer as our intern.   Ali was chosen for this internship because of her interest in the nonprofit sector, her driven approach to learning anything & everything, and her fierce passion for serving others.
 
Ali is a member of South Burlington High School's Key Club, Coalition for Community Service, Podcast Club, CDC Correspondents, Rebelution (the school paper), Student Diversity Union, and RESULTS.
 
After high school Ali is planning on attending college where she intends to study Political Science/International Affairs and world languages.  Ali joined T4T to satiate her desire to learn more about nonprofits with the goal of starting her own nonprofit after college. 
 
We are thrilled to have a such a curious, vivacious, and passionate student working with us this summer.
