Supreme Court Decision "Heartbreaking"

Thursday, June 23, 2016, the Supreme Court decided against the Obama Administration's Executive Order that offers over 4 million undocumented immigrants the opportunity to remain in the United States without the fear of deporttion.

After the Supreme Court decision, President Barak Obama called the decision "heartbreaking."

"We've got a very real choice that America faces right now," Obama said. "We're going to have to decide whether we've a people who accept the cruelty of children ripped from their parent's arms, or whether we acutally value families and keep them together for the sake of all of our communities."

Deferred Action for Childhood
Arrivals Not Affected

Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson issued a statement after the Supreme Court's decision, 4-4 split, that the "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals" (DACA) policy will not change.

"We (Homeland Security) are expanding policies designated to help family members of U.S. citizens and permanet residents stay together when removal would result in extreme hardships," Johnson said.

JFON Will Not Lose Hope

As the Supreme Court's split decision in U.S. vs. Texas, JFON staff and volunteers remain focused on providing our immigrant neighbors with quality legal services.

The Supreme Court's decision means that President Obama's executive actions cannot go forward.

That also means our immigrant neighbors fear of being separated from their parents, children and family continues. "This decision denies many immigrants from working lawfully, drive a vehicle, or become a part of our American society," states  Rob Rutland-Brown, Executive Director of the National JFON. He continues, "Our network will continue assisting with the 2012 DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) cases, which are not affected by (this) ruling."

JFON-DFW staff and volunteers continue our commitment to provide quality, low-cost legal services and help our immigrant neighbors come out of the shadows. We will not lose hope that there will be fair immigration reform one day, and our immigrant neighbors will walk among us without fear of deportation.
