July, 2016

The Fourth of July holiday weekend is here! It's the perfect opportunity to delve into a bit of local American history. Our catalog is chalk full of excellent Revolutionary War   history books, biographies and a decent selection of colorful historical fiction options as well.

If you're planning a "stay-cation," grab a library book and make your way over to Battlefield Memorial Park across from the Savannah History Museum. The site of the second bloodiest battle of the American Revolution, it's the perfect place to  examine the birth of our nation. Our friends at Coastal Heritage Society have done an excellent job preserving the Battlefield for the public to explore.  As a librarian, I enjoy reading about history as much as I do exploring historic sites!  I'd love to hear about your favorite American history books and authors. Send your recommendations by email to [email protected] by Sat., at 5 p.m. and I'll be happy to feature them on our social media news feed over the holiday weekend.

Thank you to all the men and women who bravely serve or have served our country. Please remember that all Live Oak Public Libraries branches will be closed on Monday, July 4. Regular branch hours will resume on Tues.

Have a wonderful and safe 4th,

Jason
