BATTLE AT THE BORDER
Date: July 23, 2016 - 8:30a Location: 2000 State Hwy 57 N., Little River, SC 29566
The Border Battle was created to bring the GSRC together as a united front, displaying our uniformity and strength as a group of individuals with a common interest. Our number one goal is to gather our members together to illustrate the clubs overall interest in running and friendship.
This year we need everyone to come out for the most fun race of the year and show what a great club we are a part of with the Grand Strand Running Club. We arent looking for the fastest of the fast... were looking for the club to come together as a group. Every runner, regardless of speed, counts as a member of the Grand Strand Running Club. Your paces dont count. We need strength in numbers and unity is the key to our success. Join for a fun run and an opportunity to bond with all members in the club.
So mark your calendar, cancel your vacation plans and get out your war paint or tutu, whatever showing spirit might be for you! Join us for a fun run, good conversation and refreshing popsicles! This is our opportunity to get to know each and every member, regardless of your location in the Grand Strand. But most importantly, show up, because we all want you there. Win or lose, we do this together!
You must be a current member to participate.
TROPHY ANNOUNCEMENT There will be a new trophy introduced at this year's Battle at the Border! This new trophy will be awarded to the team with the most participants (including both runners and volunteers).
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED We will need volunteers for marking the course on July 22nd. We will also need volunteers out on the course during the race, as well as volunteers to help take down the markers. If you are willing to volunteer, please email Ryan Dion. Extra coolers would be appreciated for the event as well.
CHILDCARE Jessica Kristich and Kate Boucher have volunteered to provide childcare for those who wish to bring their children.

RRCA COACHING
The Red Cross Rescue Racers, through a partnership with the Grand Strand Running Club, have been successful in bringing a Road Runners of America Coaching Certification Course here to Myrtle Beach. We were very fortunate to be able to schedule this very sought-after training.
This is a 2-day course scheduled for Saturday/Sunday, October 15/16, 2016, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. It will be held in the Emergency Operations Center of the Red Cross chapter, 3531 Pampas Drive and will include breakfast and lunch, drinks and snacks.
The cost is $325 per person. Registration is limited to 35 people.
Because these classes fill up quickly, we are able to promote this opportunity to our team and the GSRC members first before it is publicly advertised by RRCA.
If you would like to take this course please sign up as soon as possible. Again, once it goes public and is highly promoted by the RRCA, it will fill quickly.

MUSC CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL 300 RECAP
ANGELA ROBINETTE
, GSRC Member
On Saturday, June 18, five teenage girls and coaches from the North Myrtle Beach area finished their seven-day trek from the MUSC hospital in Charleston to the beach on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. They ran twice per day, morning and evening. It wasn't an easy run up Hwy 17. Shoulders were minimal - in some cases non-existent - and the morning sun was intense. The girls learned about endurance (none of them had ever run more than seven miles in one day), taking care of aches and pains, and philanthropy. They raised thousands of dollars for the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital at MUSC.
