Online Courses through CCPE for Fall 2016

Two online courses are being offered this Fall through the UB Center for Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE): Bullying Prevention & Intervention (CEP 752) and Adolescent Social Drama (CEP 753). Alberti Center Annual Conference Update
|
Save the date! The 2016 Alberti Center Annual Conference will take place on
Thursday, September 29, 2016
from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Classics V Banquet & Conference Center. The conference this year will be presented by the New York State Developmental
Disabilities Planning Council. Accommodations are being made to ensure that this is a fully accessible conference for adults with disabilities, parents and caregivers, and professionals. NYSED LMSW & LCSW Contact Hours will be offered to those who attend the full conference; no partial attendance credits will be awarded.
We are excited to share  that our morning keynote speaker will be Dr. Chad Rose, assistant professor, Department of Special Education at the University of Missouri, and recipient of the 2015 Alberti Center Early Career Award. Our afternoon keynote will be presented by Julie Hertzog, director of PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center. In addition to these  two presenters, we will offer 6 breakout session options covering topics including: disability law, school counseling, LGBTQ, parent perspectives, socialization, mental health, and self-advocacy. 4th Annual BAND Against Bullying a Success
|
The fourth Annual BAND Against Bullying event took place on Tuesday, April 26, at the UB Center for the Arts. Dr. Amanda Nickerson
 participated as a celebrity guest judge for the event! All of the students who participated this year were incredibly talented and did a great job incorporating the "dignity" theme into their performances. Congratulations to Williamsville East High School (
pictured left) for taking home the first-place trophy, and also to runners-up Clarence High School.

Committee for Children Grant Update
|
The project team for the Committee for Children grant, led by Drs. Amanda Nickerson and Jennifer Livingston, has been busy making progress on their evaluation of the videos to promote child personal safety. The online randomized controlled trial will be completed this summer. Dr. Kathleen Allen (Principal Research Scientist) and Kelly O'Hern (Project Director) have conducted focus groups with parents in New York, California, Nebraska, and Florida! Welcome to our Newest Team Member
|
Allison Sealy recently joined the Alberti Center team as a research assistant. Allison graduated with her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology with a minor in Education from the University at Buffalo. She is currently a Master's student in the MA/AC School Psychology program at the University at Buffalo. Her research interests include learning how to better incorporate bullying prevention into schools and developing tools for educators and parents to become more aware and adept at victimization prevention.
