2016 Ag Gala
The 11th Annual Ag Gala was held on Tuesday, June 21 at the  Kiwanis 4-H Ice Center.  Chris and Cindy Nelsen and their three children were honored as the Farm Family of the Year 2016.  

Over $24,000 was raised for P.A.Y. Scholarships.

Downtown Facelift Taking Shape 
Before
The goal of the Downtown Yankton Façade Grant Program is to stimulate private investment in downtown Yankton and improve the economic vibrancy of the area through fostering an attractive environment and preserving the architectural features of the downtown properties. To accomplish program goals, grant funds will be made available to eligible property owners and/or tenants of commercial buildings located within the targeted area for the purpose of upgrading the appearance of the publicly visible exterior of their structures. Private matching funds are a requirement under the program.

Lewis & Clark Realty is in the process of updating the exterior of their building in downtown Yankton.

World Archery Delegation Visits Yankton
The National Field Archery Association (NFAA) and the Yankton Convention & Visitors Bureau have teamed up to invite staff from World Archery to a South Dakota Excursion and 2017 Gala Planning Meeting.  On July 3, ten people from World Archery fly in to Sioux Falls for a fun filled 6 day excursion.  They will spend July 4th in Yankton celebrating our National holiday with the capstone of the day being our wonderful fireworks display at the river.  July 5 & 6 are spent out in the Black Hills where they will get a chance to meet the Governor plus see many attractions including Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Custer State Park, Reptile Gardens plus many more.   July 7 & 8 they are back here in Yankton to have fun at our many attractions.  If you see this group out and about, please tell them 'hello' and 'welcome to Yankton!'  Thanks to many areas businesses, as well as those in the Black Hills, who are planning on rolling out the red carpet and providing them a trip they won't soon forget.
Trinkets WANTED!
Yankton's Riverboat Days celebration is coming up August 19-21.   T he Chamber is looking for donations of trinkets to hand out during the parade.  If you have something with your business logo on it that you would like handed out, please drop it off at the Chamber office by Friday, August 12 or call 665-3636 and we will pick it up.

Businesses on Hwy 50/4th Street Construction
Every Tuesday, weekly construction meetings will be held at 9 am at the Yankton Chamber of Commerce to discuss updates on the Hwy 50 project.  Businesses are invited to attend to hear about the progress.  If you are unable to attend, updates are available at  www.sddot.com .

  • Milt Haar is the new Chief of Science & Resources Management for the National Park Service, Missouri National Recreational River. He will be overseeing the Park's natural and cultural resources management and research programs, including wildlife, invasive species, emergent sandbar habitat, and land protection with respect to short- and long-range planning and environmental compliance. His new position will begin July 10.
  •  Jeremy Hoeck from the Yankton Press & Dakotan was named the South Dakota Sportswriter of the Year during the National Sports Media Association annual convention in North Carolina.  Jeremy has worked for the P&D for 10 years.  In 2014, he was named Outstanding Young Journalist by the South Dakota Newspaper Association.
