On June 23, the DOA members in Tom's River, NJ were invited to the Islamic Center of Ocean Country, NJ to share in the Ramadan Breaking of the
Fast. Theprogram included a welcome from Brother Nabeel Attia who began with a fierce denunciation of the attack in Orlando and a strong statement of support for the rights of all members of the community, regardless of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation.
After a recitation from the Koran by Hafiz Sarfaraz, Mona Kahn spoke about the Daughters of Abraham and how reading books about different faith traditions has brought us closer to one another in understanding and friendship. Imam Qadri explained the meaning of the Ramadan fast and how all three Abrahamic religions encourage fasting as a means of entering into a dialog with God. A Christian layman and a Rabbi spoke about their experiences with fasting. The program concluded with a wonderful feast. It truly was God's table.
Second Annual Spiritual Retreat
Please remember t
o mark your calendars for the Day of Rest and Reflection, Sunday, July 17, at Adelynrood Retreat and Conference Center in Byfield, MA. This occasion was so much appreciated in 2015 that it will be repeated this year. We'll begin an hour earlier, at 1:00 pm, to keep our schedule more relaxed.
If you have not registered, please do so now, by sending an email to Sajda Elahi-Gdihi at [email protected]. We have planned to keep the numbers of each of our three faiths equal. There are still a few slots for all three faiths. We especially hope our Muslim Daughters will attend and enjoy this time together with other Daughters of Abraham. Sajda will email you a registration form, even if you will be on a waiting list, and let you know of your status. We wish every Daughter who wants to come could be there, but Adelynrood has a limited capacity.
We look forward to this time of quiet in a lovely setting. For pictures of Adelynrood and directions, go to their website at www.adelynrood.org. We can help with arranging carpools.
