School Supply List
It's hard to believe that it's already July!  We know all the good sales for school supplies start up this month so here is next year's school supply list.

Girl Scout Project Will Create New Entrance Garden at PRMS
Lauren Dybvik, who is in 8th grade at PRMS, is working on her Girl Scout Silver Award Project. This particular award project must address a community issue and be sustainable into the future, and requires the Girl Scout to put in at least 50 hours of active leadership. Lauren is partnering with the PTO to design and plant a garden at the entrance of PRMS, where yew bushes currently reside. Lauren and her mentor, Neva Crocker, who is the Principal's Secretary as well as a Master Gardener, have designed a beautiful and interesting 100 foot by approximately 10 foot shade garden. To accomplish the goal of bringing this plan to life, plant and equipment donations are essential.

Lauren, with Neva Crocker's guidance, has researched the best plants for this well-used and shady space. While some shrubbery will need to be purchased, the garden will rely on plant donations to fill in the remaining space.

Donated plants can be split/divided from your personal garden or purchased at a local garden center. We will baby sit the plants until we are able to plant them into the garden in time for the start of the school year. Please drop off all plants at the PRMS office in plastic pots or card board boxes.

Here are the specific plants/supplies needed to make this project come together:
  • Sum & Substance Hosta - 5 needed -This is a large variety that will brighten and fill the space nicely.
  • Large Variegated Hosta - 9 needed - Examples would be: 'Lunar Orbit' or 'Frances Williams'
  • Heuchera (Green Coral Bells) - 5 needed - We would prefer 'Green Spice' or a similar variety
  • Pink or Purple Astilbe - 9 needed - Example would be Misty Lace
  • Ligularia 'Britt Marie Crawford' - 1 needed
  • 1 spade or small shovel for weeding/planting purposes
  • 4 - 50' soaker hoses for watering
  • Cash/Check Donations to PTO, earmarked for the Landscaping Project - we hope to raise $400 to $500 to purchase the necessary supplies and plant materials not donated.  Please make checks payable to PRMS PTO.

All donations can be dropped off in the PRMS office Mon-Thurs, 7am-3pm, starting July 11th.  Additionally if you would like to help on our planting days, TBD, please let us know and we will contact you with those dates once we have them established.  If you have a large tiller and would be willing to till in compost near the end of July, please contact Neva.

Please direct any questions to Neva Crocker at [email protected]

Strike Out Cancer - Fundraising Campaign
Logan's Strike Out Cancer Display

Families of Pioneer Ridge Middle School,

My name is Logan Henderson and I am in 7th grade.  For my passion project, I have been fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of Mr. Todd Oakes who was the Minnesota Gophers Pitching Coach for the past 18 years. Sadly, Todd passed away on Thursday, May 26th after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia with extreme courage for the past four years.  He is a role model to me because he made an incredible difference in the lives of so many people, on and off the baseball fields, and I want to try to make a difference in honor of him and for others who are fighting leukemia and lymphoma cancers.  I will continue my fundraising efforts until I have reached my goal.  All of the donations from PRMS will help LLS do what they do best - help children and adults who are fighting these types of cancers.  If you would like to help, you can donate online here.  Thank you for your support; I appreciate it very much!

Jersey Mike's Fundraiser
In May, Pioneer Ridge participated in a fundraising promotion in conjunction with Jersey Mike's Subs of Chanhassen.  This week we received a check for $1008.73 from Jersey Mike's.  Thank you all who used your sub cards and supported Pioneer Ridge Middle School.  The funds will be used to continue to innovate personalized learning at Pioneer Ridge.

News from the Nurse
Greetings,
My name is Terri Tompkins, and I am one of the school nurses at Pioneer Ridge Middle School. In planning for next school year, please feel free to contact me to discuss any significant health condition information you feel will help us get acquainted with your child before the start of next school year.  Here are a few guidelines.

Please use this link for information from the nurse regarding 7th grade immunizations, medications at school and individual health plans.

Carver County Public Health offers low-cost immunizations for children without insurance coverage.  Learn more here.

Do you have a Chromebook?  Think you'll move this summer?  RETURN IT!
If your family may move this summer, you must return your Chromebook to school before June 3rd. Once your student is unenrolled from Eastern Carver County Schools, his/her Google account will be removed and the Chromebook will not function. Even if there is a chance your family will move, we recommend returning the Chromebook. Just let us know you might be return in the fall and your student will receive his/her Chromebook back if your family does not leave the district.

A Message from the Media Center
