LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
This past week our wonderful city had the opportunity after 52 years to feel what it's like to have a winning team. The Cavs made us proud and we all felt fantastic! Whether walking in the mall or at the drug store, the grocery store or down the street, everyone was friendly, and we all felt part of a community.
NCJW/Cleveland members can feel that experience on a regular basis. Whether it's when we are advocating for change nationally to help reduce gun violence or lobbying in Columbus to change legislation for the safety of Ohio's infants. When we sit around a table as a group knitting hundreds of items to be given to those homeless to keep them warm during the winter months or filling school libraries full of books. Or when 110 members travel in buses together to Chautauqua to hear great speakers. We all feel connected and proud that we are doing something to enhance the lives of women, children, families and even ourselves.
Becoming a member of NCJW/Cleveland provides so many opportunities to connect with other individuals just like us. We are women who want to give back, who want have fun, who want to celebrate the "wins" of helping to change the lives of so many. We all want to be a part of a community.

Women's Reproductive Justice Committee
The All-Access Concert for Abortion
Cleveland has been selected as the nationwide site for a high profile, national concert to spotlight and promote the issue of equal access to abortion. It will feature an A-list entertainer (to be announced soon) and will be free and open to the public!
NCJW/Cleveland is partnering with local and national organizations to support the event. Watch for more details!
Save The Date: Saturday, September 10
Candidates Night
NCJW/Cleveland will jointly sponsor a Candidates' Forum with the League of Women Voters on September 29. The date will be announced in a future bulletin. The focus will be on local Ohio House and Senate contested races and will offer the opportunity to learn the candidates' positions on important issues such as reproductive justice, gun violence and human trafficking.
Focus on Foster Care Committee
Self Esteem Program Expanded
We are adding Pressley Ridge, Council of Neighborhood Leaders, and BeechBrook to the list of organizations where we help build the self-esteem of children and young adults as part of their independent living program.
Scholars Celebrated
The Sullivan Deckard scholars, former foster children who received scholarships, completed their first year at Cleveland State University. We celebrated their hard work and dedication by taking them to the Ziggy Marley concert at Cain Park. It was an awesome evening!
We look forward to meeting and mentoring the second cohort of scholars this fall.

I'm not ashamed to admit it. Matter of fact, I'm darn proud of the clothes and accessories I've purchased at Designer Dress Days.
I've worn my $65 Donna Karan dress to luncheons. I've donned my $75 Armani jacket at celebratory events. I've carried my vintage Bally Bag often and worn my $50 Elie Tahari light weight leather jacket (my favorite designer) multiple times.
I tell you this because stories about our buying and wearing DDD clothes make good publicity. So do experiences you've had with customers - funny or heartwarming. Matter of fact, quoting our customers on their exciting experiences, longtime loyalty and best finds also make good copy, especially if they are local celebrities.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

We are in need of FABRIC for our Heart Pillows project. The best fabric is clothing-weight cotton. All colors, patterns and solids are welcome! If you have fabric scraps, we need at least 18-inch squares. We welcome your donations! Please bring them to the NCJW Office.
Our stuffing and sewing hands help give comfort to women who have just had breast cancer surgery. Join us as we stuff and sew heart-shaped pillows. The pillows will be mostly sewn. We will stuff, then finish them by hand sewing a 4-inch seam. If you can't sew, that's fine; come to stuff and make cards!

Share What You Wear
Volunteer Opportunity for Teens
If you know a teen who is looking for a fun and rewarding way to make a difference, tell him/her about Share What You Wear. NCJW/Cleveland's outreach program engages teens to help children in need of clothing and school supplies to start off the school year in a positive way! We collect gently- worn children's clothing all year in anticipation of the big August event.
We need help sorting clothes on Mondays in July.

We also need volunteers -- adults and teens -- on Monday, August 8th to set up the event at the Tudor Arms Hotel and on the day of the event, Tuesday, August 9, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm, either in the morning or afternoon shift (or both if you would like), to help clients select items.

The 14 women who have been performing all over Cleveland for the last 9 years cordially invite anyone with an hour to spare to come to The Friendship Circle on Tuesday afternoons between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. during July and August to watch us rehearse our new show, the High Notes World Tour. We would love an audience - and we'll share our songs and dance steps.
Book Sorting at Cleveland Kids' Book Bank
Book sorting continues at The Cleveland Kids' Book Bank (kidsbookbank.org) on Thursday mornings in July. Volunteers are wanted and welcomed.

Though we happily accept all children's books, gently-used hardback children's books are especially needed right now, as we embark on our second chapter of Building Bridges with Books, at Adlai E. Stevenson Elementary School in Cleveland. We specially need early elementary school chapter books, like Junie B. Jones or Dork Diaries books, or young adult books, like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games series.
These books will be placed in the Cleveland School libraries we support, Warner Girls' Leadership Academy and Adlai E. Stevenson Elementary School.
Please bring the books to the back of the office, the same place you bring your donations for Thriftique Showroom and Designer Dress Days. Thank you!
DIGKNITTY (KNITTERS)
Our busy knitters work tirelessly to provide warm clothing, blankets, and comfort toys to many organizations who distribute the to families and children who are in need of them.

Designer Dress Days
Mark your calendars for DDD 2016. The excitement is building and will reach crescendo in late October. Our warehouse is already bursting with fabulous clothes and accessories but we can handle more, so please bring in your gently used clothes, furs, purses and jewelry NOW. Last minute donations present processing problems for our great volunteers.
Preview day is Friday, October 28. The entrance fee for this special day of shopping is $20. The free-of-charge days are Sunday October 30 thru November 1. Be watching the next few bulletins for information about how you can help by volunteering during set up, tear down and the sale itself. We will also be sending a sign-up form to all members via actual mail and in the ebulletin, early in August.

FUND DEVELOPMENT

For those of us involved in the financial aspects of supporting our amazing NCJW/Cleveland programming, this month brings the start of a new fiscal year. We begin again the exciting, worthy task of raising funds to secure our strong future! We seek to surpass last year's
successful campaign as the needs are greater than ever.
Our goals are to:
- Raise our Annual Campaign goal.
- Brainstorm and implement creative, new ideas to reach donors, including working women and non-members.
- Plan a Spring Gala featuring engaging entertainment to fund Foster Care Initiatives.
- Increase endowment and tribute funds.
- Increase the sale of tribute cards to honor a worthy recipient. The purchase of these cards is a contribution to NCJW. They are always available at the office.
I look forward to sharing specifics of our campaign as the fiscal year progresses. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas that will move our goals forward.
