Vacation Bible School leaders! We want to feature your congregation's VBS in the Synews. Send your VBS pictures to Samantha at [email protected]

From Gathering Director, Molly Beck Dean:  We want to create a space for sharing the stories and experiences of the Gathering. A place that wasn't filled with the latest updates or specific details, but rather a place for those who love and are transformed by this ministry to share their stories, best practices, and insights.

Every three years, 30,000 high school youth and their adult leaders from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America gather for a week of faith formation known as the Gathering. The 2018 Youth Gathering will be held in Houston from June 27 to July 1.

Join Bishop Guy Erwin, Bishop Emeritus Dean Nelson, and Vicar Erin Armstrong on Saturday, July 9 for a discussion and study of Faith in the Face of Empire: The Bible through Palestinian Eyes by Palestinian Theologian Mitri Raheb.

Books are available at the synod office for $20 or can be purchased  here or at  powells.com

Lunch will follow after the discussion - please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to attend.

Mitri Raheb serves as Senior Pastor of Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem (28 years) and as President of Dar al-Kalima University College in Bethlehem. He is president of the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land and one of Palestine's most internationally known scholars.

Help St. Matthew's Help the Homeless

In partnership with Lutheran Social Services, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, North Hollywood has started a weekly drop-in program for their homeless neighbors. They provide showers, clothing, toiletries, three meals, a safe space, conversation, referrals, and spiritual restoration to more than 35 people every Wednesday.

In order for the LSS case manager to better assist homeless guests with registering for Medical and other services, St. Matthew's is in need of a recent-edition or new laptop, specifically for the drop-in ministry.  If you or your workplace have an extra laptop available, please consider supporting this new, vital ministry in our synod.

To donate, please contact Pastor Stephanie Jaeger at  [email protected] or ( 310) 968-7038.  St. Matthew's is also always in need of volunteers, hot food donations, and items such as underwear and socks, clothing, toiletries, nail clippers, and magnifying eye glasses.
