Tip of the month: 4th of July Safety
Make sure to use appropriate safety precautions when shooting off fireworks this Independence Day. Happy 4th of July from Omni!
Medicare Part B Requirem ents
Last week, Wisconsin Physician Services (WPS) hosted the Medicare Part B provider meeting. Some of the information provided at the meeting serves to benefit all EMS providers- helping them to secure Medicare payouts and keeping a steady revenue stream.

  • Everything on the Patient Care Report (PCR) and Physician Certification Statement (PCS) MUST be legible and appropriate signatures MUST be included
A re you aware that Medicare may deny claims if they can't read your writing or identify signatures on PCR and PCS forms?

To prevent delays or denials on Medicare payouts, all appropriate health care providers MUST sign PCS forms. Patients who have the capability to sign MUST sign the patient care report.

  • Chief complaints MUST be descriptively detailed
Writing "patient is sick" doesn't cut it. Medicare will deny claims if they do not see in-depth details of "when, what, and how" the patient is injured. Use  descriptors  such as "nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, etc." to detail exactly how the patient is sick instead of using a vague term like "sick".

Benefits to being more descriptive are twofold:
(1) you get quicker Medicare payouts, and
(2) it becomes part of the continued care procedure for the patient. Health care providers at the hospital where the patient is being transferred will have a complete picture of what happened.

  • Did you know Medicare uses your dispatch information as one of the determinants for Advanced Life Support (ALS) response?
During ALS assessments, always document who makes the assessment and why it was medically necessary
