Let Them Eat Cake! or USxit?

The results of the BrExit vote surprised me. What was most surprising was that the greatest number of Google searches after the referendum were "What does it mean to leave the EU?" and "What is the EU?" It would appear to me that people were voting their gut instead of the their future - voting their present pain instead of their future prosperity. That was born out by the statistics that most younger voters voted to remain while most older voters chose to leave. I'm not surprised at the paucity of people who analyze their options, what surprises me is the inability of the campaigns to communicate a detailed message about the future. The assumption seems to be that listeners are incapable of understanding the bigger picture.

Very few of the people I've met over the years are that stupid. Most are very aware of world events, their current situation, and how changes would affect them personally. The problem is that no one is willing - or able - to give them the information they need to make an informed decision.

This isn't about politics, this is about marketing - your marketing. Are you trying to appeal to people's current feelings, or to their emotional contentment over their lifetime as a customer? While your message might resonate with their current emotional outlook, how will they feel about you when they come to their senses? Real relationships are built over time, with relevant conversations, and through trial and error. It's not about what I will do for you, it's about what we will accomplish together.

This Month's Insurance Tip:

The Marketplace and the insurance carriers are much more rigid these days about granting special enrollment periods to qualify for health insurance. For those who don't qualify, there are other options. Short term plans, critical illness plans, and disability plans can be effective protection for your family if you are unable to qualify for Obamacare plans.

My role as an Agent is to help people find the right coverage to suit their situation and their budget - not mine.
