Become a docent

Docents are the highlight of a visit to the Highlands Ranch Mansion. They greet guests, provide tours and answer questions about the history of the home. Docents work during designated open hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays, one Monday evening a month and at special events. Becoming a docent is a great way to get involved in your community. The first step to become a docent is to attend an upcoming docent training session. Docent spotlight: Peggy Breeding

Meet Peggy Breeding. She is a volunteer docent at the Highlands Ranch Mansion. Though originally a Colorado native, Peggy spent her career in Texas working as a registered nurse and in the special education field before returning to Denver upon retirement.

Peggy has been a docent for two and half years. When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering at the Mansion, she replied, "Meeting the people and sharing the history." Her favorite history fact is that Samuel Allen Long was the first owner of the Mansion in 1884 and built his home in 1891, information that wasn't discovered until the Mansion's renovation in 2010-2012. Peggy's favorite room at the Mansion is the living room, which she describes as "relaxing and soothing."

Peggy's knowledge and love for the Mansion is evident during her tours. There is no one quite like her.
The Mansion is full of history

Marian Morgan lived in what is now Highlands Ranch property for more than 60 years, longer than any other local resident. Her husband, Bud, was ranch foreman for Lawrence Phipps, Jr. starting in 1939 when the Morgan family lived along Plum Creek on the far western side of the community. In 1965, a flood destroyed their home, causing Phipps, Jr. to move the Morgans to a small cottage near the Mansion. After her husband's death in 1974, Marian continued to live in this cottage for the remainder of her life, passing away in 2010. This summer, a beautiful memorial garden has been built on the Mansion property in Marian's honor.

Rent the Mansion for your private event or tour

Located in central Highlands Ranch, the Mansion is open to the public for community and private events, business meetings, tours and cultural programs. This elegant western estate is the perfect place to host weddings, receptions, reunions, anniversaries and other life celebrations, business meetings and retreats.

Historic tours and open hours
Guided tours of the Mansion include a 35-minute tour of the first floor or a tour of the first and second floors, lasting approximately one hour.

Self-guided tours are also welcome. Visitors can follow the tour boards in each room to learn more about the history of the home.

Group tours can be arranged for groups of 10 or more and for youth and student groups.
