Summer Reading Programs for Teens and Adults

Exercise Your Mind - Read!        
If you are over 18 you can sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program which runs thru Aug. 2nd.
Read a book, fill out a book review slip online or pick one up at the library and be entered to win weekly prize drawings. If you read 5 or more books, you will be eligible to win the grand prize: a Fitbit Flex and a free month of yoga at Bending Bohdi Yoga Studio!
 
TEENS!
Sign-up for the teen summer reading program which runs through Aug. 2nd for your chance to win amazing prizes including tickets to Canobie Lake Park, Water Country, The Works, Introductory Climbing Lessons at Indoor Ascent, and a skate deck from Red Alert Skate Park!
Climbing Wall

Can you make it to the top of the
24 foot Climbing Wall?
Come and test your skills Wednesday, July 20th from 2pm to 4pm.  This event is for those 4 years old and up, and 4 people will be on the wall at once.  Sensible shoes suggested.  Vertical Dreams will be requiring signed waivers from each participant, and a parental signature for those 18 and under.  
 
Library Book Group


The Morning Book Group will meet on Thursday July 7th at 10am to discuss "Lake People" by Abi Maxwell. The Evening Book Group takes July and August off.  
Get a preview of what each group will be reading on Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/doverpl. Books are available at the Circulation Desk and new members are always welcome.
Harry Potter Day

Wish Harry Potter a "happy birthday!" with an early celebration on Dover Public Library's front lawn. The celebration will take place on Saturday, July 30th from 9 am to 1 pm.

Attendees will pass through Platform 9 3/4 and get sorted into houses, where they will then participate in various classes including Wand Making, Herbology, Potions, and Care of Magical Creatures. Snacks will be provided in the Great Hall (library's Lecture Hall) and students are welcome to test their flying skills with a friendly game of Quidditch on the McConnell Center's front lawn.

Participants will also compete in a Horcrux Scavenger Hunt and trivia contest for Harry Potter prizes.
Free Computer Classes

Technology classes and lectures are offered at the library for FREE! Learn Microsoft Excel and Word. Please sign up on our events calendar and read individual class descriptions there as well. We have had several no-shows at the classes, so be considerate of staff time and others on the waiting list and mark the class in your calendar or call 603-516-6050 to cancel at least 24 hours ahead if you won't be able to attend.
 
Second Wednesday Movie Series



Hot summer nights at the library aren't conducive for watching movies, so the monthly Second Wednesday movies series is taking July and August off and will return in September.
 
Game Night



Monthly Game Night continues on the 3rd Wednesday of the month: July 20th and August 17th at 6pm . Board game fun for all ages! Snacks will be provided too!
 

Author Visit and Book Discussion 

Author Yona Zeldis McDonough will be here on Wednesday August 10th at 7pm . She is the author 8 fiction and non-fiction titles for adults and numerous children's books, including several from the popular "Who Was?" series published by Grossett and Dunlap. She will be speaking about her work and holding an informal book discussion with the group about her latest novel "The House on Primrose Pond" published earlier this year. We have several copies of this book available thanks to her publisher, Penguin Books, to borrow ahead of the event for those who are interested. Yona will have copies of some of her books available for purchase and will gladly sign copies after her talk.
National Coloring Book Day

Join us for coloring at the Library on Tuesday August 2nd National Coloring Book Day. We have lots of fun coloring sheets and bookmarks to color. Bring your own coloring books to color too!! During the summer, folks meet weekly to color on Tuesdays from 2-4pm.
