Alberta Health is undertaking a review of continuing care regulations that expire in 2017. The regulations under review as part of the Nursing Homes and Home Care Regulations review include the following:
 
Nursing Homes Operation Regulation ;
Nursing Homes General Regulation; and ,
Co-ordinated Home Care Program Regulation.

Grants and Awards
AGE FRIENDLY EDMONTON INNOVATION FUND

Do you have an idea for a project that will support seniors in your community? The Age Friendly Edmonton Innovation Fund supports new projects that involve seniors and build local communities that value, respect and actively support the well-being of seniors. 

The Innovation Fund provides grants of up to $5,000 for community projects that best meet the following goals:
  • Community support services are inclusive and responsive in meeting the needs of seniors
  • The community is engaged in meeting the needs of seniors
Priority will be given to community leagues and other community-based organizations in Edmonton with not-for-profit status.
STARS OF ALBERTA VOLUNTEER AWARDS

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize extraordinary Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. Nominations are accepted until September 20.

2016 ALBERTA NONPROFIT SURVEY
Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations

The Alberta Nonprofit Survey gathers data on finances, demand for services, staffing, and the economic outlook of Alberta's nonprofits and charities and is a valuable source of information on the state of the nonprofit sector in Alberta. The 2016 report is based on the analysis of 460 responses collected from nonprofit organizations across Alberta between February 2 and 26, 2016.

Part-time Office Assistant
Central Lions Seniors Association

Working under the supervision of the Office Administrator, the Office Assistant will perform day to day administrative duties necessary to the operations of the Association. These duties will include but are not limited to normal office clerical and administrative duties, supervision and relief of Front Desk Volunteers, answering phones and assisting members with queries, and taking minutes at meetings as required.
 
Requirements: A good command of both written and spoken English is necessary. At least one year of business training and three years of office experience including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office would be ideal. Experience working with volunteers or seniors would be a definite asset.

SENIORS HOME ADAPTATION AND REPAIR PROGRAM (SHARP)
Government of Alberta

The Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP) will help senior homeowners to remain in their homes and maintain their independence by providing eligible seniors with a low-interest home equity loan to finance home repairs and adaptations. Examples of home repairs and adaptations covered under the program would be:
  • widening doorways or hallways to increase accessibility
  • installing walk-in tubs
  • roof replacements
  • plumbing and electrical repairs
SHARP will replace the home repair grants provided through the Special Needs Assistance for Seniors Program. A grant component will be available under SHARP to help lower-income seniors who do not qualify under the loan program, but require financial support for critical home repairs.

On July 1, 2016, the application form along with additional information about the program will be available on the Alberta Seniors and Housing website or by calling Alberta Supports at 780-644-9992 in Edmonton (1-877-644-9992 outside of the Edmonton calling area).

The Edmonton Radial Railway Society (ERRS) has the largest fleet of heritage streetcars in western Canada and operates two heritage streetcar routes in the city. We all have witnessed these historical vessels making their way through old Strathcona and now is your chance to experience a trip across the High Level Bridge for yourself. The ERRS museum will be open for you to browse prior to boarding. The car will leave at 7 p.m. sharp so please arrive with plenty of time to explore. Store To Doorâ„¢ is a volunteer based personalized grocery shopping, delivery and shelving program for low income, homebound or disabled Edmontonians who are unable to do their own grocery shopping.
