Success Story
atom Alliance Trains Diabetes Peer Educators  in Alabama and Four Other States
Alabama has the fourth highest rate of adult diabetes in the nation. While the national average is 10.1 percent, Alabama is at 12.9 percent. However, the Alabama Quality Assurance Foundation (AQAF) is taking strides to decrease this rate as part of the atom Alliance Quality Innovation Network - Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO).

Under contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), atom Alliance is working on the Everyone with Diabetes Counts (EDC) initiative in Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. EDC provides Medicare beneficiaries living with diabetes and pre-diabetes an opportunity to participate in free diabetes self-management education (DSME) classes.
