Fireworks Safety Tips
Fourth of July fireworks are a favorite Folsom tradition, but did you know that more fires are reported on this day than on any other day of the year in the United States? Nearly half of these fires are caused by fireworks. The good news is you can enjoy the festivities and fireworks with just a few simple safety tips:
  • Be sure to purchase "Safe and Sane" fireworks that bear the State Fire Marshal's seal. If fireworks explode or leave the ground, it is illegal in California.
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place.
  • Read and follow all directions.
  • When using legal fireworks, only set them off outdoors, in a clear area, away from homes, dry leaves, or grass and other flammable materials.
  • Supervise children and be sure other people are out of range before lighting.
  • Always have a bucket of water for disposal of fireworks, and a hose connected to water in case of fire.
  • Do not try to relight or handle malfunctioning fireworks. Soak them with water and throw them away.
  • Know that use of fireworks on all bike trails and open spaces in the city is prohibited.
  • Use of fireworks in city parks is prohibited.
July is Parks & Recreation Month
The month of July is designated as a nationwide celebration recognizing the importance of parks and recreation for residents, communities and the environment. Folsom residents can enjoy outdoor spaces and recreation at any of the city's 46 parks, along 45 miles of trails, and at recreational facilities including the Folsom Senior Center, Gallery at 48 Natoma, Folsom Aquatic Center, Folsom Sports Complex and the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary. Recreational programs, activities and events for all ages and interests can be found in the summer edition of the Live Folsom Activity Guide at www.folsom.ca.us/activityguide.
Register Now for 2016 National Night Out
Each year, the Folsom Police Department partners with the community for National Night Out, a nationwide program that promotes involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The event fosters strong, safe neighborhoods by getting residents better acquainted, and sends a strong message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized. This year's National Night Out is on Tuesday, August 2. This event is a great chance to meet your neighbors, socialize and help keep your neighborhood safe. If your neighborhood is involved in Folsom Police Neighborhood Watch and planning a National Night Out celebration, complete an application prior to Thursday, July 14. Download the application or for more information contact Jessica Hess at 916-351-3409 or [email protected] .
