SEPTEMBER 2015

Bridge of Life Up Close: Medical Camps
for Kids

Randi, a Bridge of Life volunteer, was part of a team determined to find a way to ride the camp zipline for Michael, a camper at The Painted Turtle whose lungs were failing and who relied on an oxygen tank that could not be removed or he would succumb to his illness.

To date in 2015 ...

  • 18 international medical missions
  • 13 domestic chronic kidney disease (CKD) screenings
  • 16 medical camp sessions for kids  with serious illnesses
  • 112 DaVita Kidney Care teammate volunteers
  • 59 HealthCare Partners teammate volunteers
 New Medical Missions & CKD Screenings
Vietnam - June
For the first time, a chronic kidney disease screening event was paired with a primary care medical mission with great results! Two DaVita Kidney Care teammates assisted in screening 580 individuals, and three HealthCare Partners teammates treated 1,266 individuals for primary care services, including 540 adult-gyn patients!
 
Haiti - July
A milestone was reached through this primary care medical mission! 15 DaVita Kidney Care and HealthCare Partners teammates helped treat a record-breaking 1,472 people for primary care services. Multiple communities were impacted on this trip, including Galette, Dumay, Ti Marche and Turbe, and volunteers assisted our in-country partner, Double Harvest, at their clinic.
Dominican Republic - August
In partnership with Timmy Global Health, we focused on two treatment sites. Four HealthCare Partners teammates treated a total of 483 patients at Las Canas, and seven HealthCare Partners teammates assisted in treating 468 individuals at Monte Cristi!
