March MADNESS
Bridge of Life had an amazing month of medical missions!
Vietnam
We launched our first mission partnership with Project Vietnam, providing primary care services (including medical and vision care and screenings for diabetes and anemia) to over 2,500 patients during a two-week time period. 70 children also received cleft lip/palate corrective operations, and 814 children were given dental treatments and educated on oral hygiene.

Haiti
With the help of a significant donation of product from GOJO Purell, we piloted a hand hygiene program in Haiti that will have a profound impact on infection control at three medical facilities. The first location for the pilot was GHESKIO Centers in Port-au-Prince, which was the first institution in the world dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS. Today, GHESKIO treats more than 100,000 patients each year for numerous communicable diseases.
Guatemala
For World Kidney Day, we provided a chronic kidney disease screening event in Guatemala on March 12. A total of 8 DaVita teammates volunteered for this mission, and an overall 394 lives were impacted! 191 attendees received creatinine screenings, 25 of whom were children between the ages of 5 and 17. This mission made a profound difference on our prevention and education impact area in regards to both lives touched and teammates engaged!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED:
Stories From the Field

V olunteer Liem Huynh with the little girl who received his blood transfusion

Sah Tiemula Dieudonne (pictured far left) with fellow staff as Brian Fitzgerald (pictured far right), explains a new telehealth iPad with the MeU application
When DaVita HealthCare Partners volunteer, Liem Huynh, heard about a little girl in desperate need of a blood transfusion during our recent medical mission to Vietnam, he didn't hesitate to offer his own blood for the procedure.

"It wasn't a question of yes or no to me at this point, but, rather, when can we get this done.  For me, it was the sooner, the better."

Thanks to Liem's blood donation and additional funds contributed by Project Vietnam, this little girl is surviving and will receive follow-up surgery as part of her treatment sponsorship!

"The joy of these patients and their good health is the only satisfaction I have that nothing else can possibly repay in this world. I left Cameroon to come help these patients, and Bridge of Life can help me in accomplishing this mission... If we can't perform a miracle, we can contribute to the miracle process by the little things that we do."

-- Sah Tiemula Dieudonne, Nurse at La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital, one of the locations where Bridge of Life piloted the telehealth program in Belize
