Christmas in July

Every month we tell you about some of the upcoming events in Door County, and this month we wanted to tell you about an exciting event happening here at the Tannenbaum.  To celebrate Christmas in July, we will be holding our annual pickle hunt and a book signing of A Door County Night Before Christmas.

Many families observe the tradition of hiding a pickle on their tree and the person who finds the pickle gets an extra present for Christmas.  Here at the Tannenbaum, we have taken this tradition to a whole new level.  One day a year, we hide 25 "special" pickles around the store and if you find one you win a special prize (one prize per family).  This year's pickle hunt is scheduled for Saturday July 23rd, 2016.   If you are in the area, stop by and see if you are able to find a hidden pickle!

In addition, we will be having book signing featuring the author of  ''A Door County Night before Christmas'' on July 23rd!  This would be a great time to start your Christmas shopping by picking up a signed copy of this amazing book. This book takes the traditional Night before Christmas story and gives it a Door County twist.  Now, Mom is wearing a Packer scarf, Santa is eating cheese curds, and Santa's sleigh is traveling past Eagle Tower.  This book is great for the Door County tourists, collectors of the Night before Christmas, and for all lovers of Christmas books.
Made in the USA

We always have customers looking for products made in the United States and we strive to provide a wide variety of ornaments and accessories that are made here in the United States.  Here are just a few of our favorite vendors who make their products in the U.S.:  Byers Choices Carolers, Woodwick Candles, Colonial Candles, Peggy Karr Glassware, Log Cabin Creations, Abdallah Candies, Alexa's Angels, Burkart, Chase Greeting Cards, Country Christmas Eggs, Door County Coffee and Tea, Heart Gifts by Teresa, Hearts and Ivy, Heritage Lace, Second Nature, Nancy Hoover's houses, and many more.  Furthermore, we are continuously expanding our Made in the United States items. Stop in an check them all out!

Valliancourt

One of our favorite "Made in the USA" companies is Valliancourt and for the
2016 Exclusive
last couple of years we have been lucky to work with Valliancourt to design an exclusive Santa decorated with iconic places from around Door County.  This year's Santa is a tribute to Al Johnson's.  Santa is walking with a goat and has a picture of the restaurant on his coat.  Each piece is signed and numbered.  Quantities are limited, so order your piece today! We also have in stock our very first exclusive featuring the Tannenbaum painted on the front of the Santa figure and Cana Island on the back.  Last year's pieces featured Wilson's with Santa thoroughly enjoying a cherry double dip ice cream cone, and another Santa featuring Peninsula Park with the lighthouse on the front and Eagle Tower on the back of Santa's coat. All of these great exclusives from Vaillancout are in stock now at Tannenbaum.
Vote for Santa!

If you are having a hard time deciding who to vote for, we would suggest considering voting for Santa.  Earlier this year, we told you about the Byers Choice political boy and girl and their quest to elect Santa.  This month we have received our shipment of Byers Choice Patriotic Santa.  This special Santa is wearing a red and white stripped hat and coat.  He has navy pants with stars and is holding two signs.  Consider stopping by today to pick up everyone's favorite candidate!
Add a little ambiance to your home

This year, we have expanded our selection of Stony Creek lit vases.  These vases are beautifully painted and are lit from the inside.  This year in addition to having vases with Christmas and winter scenes, we have added fall and Halloween designs.  The vases range from 3.25" to 15.5" tall.   These vases are one of our favorite ways of adding a little decorative light to a dark space. Most patterns are available in 3 different sizes and 3 different versions. Plenty to choose from for your home.
Our baby section is bursting at the seams....

Since the birth of our first granddaughter, we have seen a continual growth in our baby section.  While we still have a plethora of "my first Christmas" ornaments and new baby gift sets, we also have other gifts for new parents.  Some of our favorites are:
  • Picture frames with sweet sayings such as "Twins Twice the smiles, Twice the love", "Worth the Wait"and "1st Round Draft Pick."
  • Piggy banks
  • Children's books such as "On the Night You Were Born"
In addition, we have brought in a variety of new soft stuff animals from Mudpie and Demdaco, including a musical bumble bee, a cuddly giraffe, and a pretty hippo. So if there is a new baby in your life we have you covered for fun gifts.
Mark Robert's Elves and Fairies

We are excited to announce that we have received this year's Mark Robert's Elves and Fairies!  This year we have a large selection of elves and fairies in three different sizes.  All of them feature sincere faces, vibrant coats, and perfectly detailed accessories. These details of their exquisite fabrics and elaborate accessories really set these fairies apart from all others.  We also have coordinating stands to help you display your elves and fairies around your home although they are always free to fly around.  Remember another special feature with the Mark Robert fairies is how they can be posed for any situation like hanging on your banister, or chandelier, or hide them on a shelf or in your Christmas tree.  Of course they always can snuggle with a nice bottle of wine! Your ideas can be endless. Stop in and check them all out.
Egyptian Glass

We have some collections that everyone knows by name (e.g. Christopher Radko) and then we have some collections that you may not know by name, but have seen them in the store and enjoyed.  One of those brands is Egyptian Glass.  Egyptian Glass ornaments are hand blown glass ornaments which result in each piece having its own unique look.  These glass ornaments come in a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes and all are handcrafted by Egyptian glass artists using German pyrex glass and accented with 24 karat gold trim.
This is Egyptian Museum's 15th year in business and we congratulate them on their continued success in offering the highest quality of Egyptian glass products.
Peggy Karr Glassware

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you that Peggy Karr Glassware will be going out of business.  For over 10 years, we have been carrying Peggy Karr plates.  All made in the  USA. These glass plates are beautifully designed and can be used for serving and decoration and are dish washer safe.  Some of the new styles include nativity scenes, "Bethlehem" and "Silent Night" patterns, "Snowy Night" winter trees, fall "Autumn Leaves," flowers and a new design "Chickadee and Holly".  Our last shipment has just arrived so please check out the pieces.
New England Village

The Nantucket Tulips and Garden piece displays a delightful windmill that has been perfectly converted to a garden store, offering the people of Nantucket the best selection of bulbs, winter greens, and indoor plants during this holiday season.  Sculpted porcelain plants, beautiful graphic signage, tiny garden tools, and a winter sleigh filled with holly add charm to this historic shingle architecture.  While the inside of the windmill has been converted, the vanes of the windmill still run to add extra charm to this enchanting piece.  The First Taste of Spring is a wonderful accessory that compliments the windmill garden.  It showcases a street vendor selling marigolds from his stand.

A Victorian style home makes the perfect backdrop for Calico Quilts.  This shop is filled with a wide selection of fabric, tools, and finished goods.  Repeating squares decorate the features of the shop while beautiful quilts hang from the railings of the porch.  Decorative medallions adorn the window hoods and oversized turn porch columns.  In addition, there are bins of material scraps around the side of the building.  And every quilt shop needs a quilt maker, Ms. Quilt Town, showcases our quilt maker displaying her latest creation to a customer.
The Tannenbaum Reading Corner

This month's featured book is Good Morning, Door County by Ann Heyes, from Baileys Harbor.  This children's book tells the story of some of the wonderful things to do and see in Door County.  From taking boat rides, to eating ice cream, and camping in Peninsula Park, this book can be a wonderful reminder of your trip to Door County and all of the fun things waiting for you on your next visit.     All of our copies have been hand signed by the author.
This month's winner of a $50 gift certificate is.... Marianne Woock. Congratulations!
