Supporting area high school students with the award of college scholarships in partnership with the Mayor's Office and Houston Arts Partner members
Houston area high school students shine as our 2016 Houston Arts Partners annual Mayor's Art Scholarship recepients are announced. The students listed below were awarded scholarships to the university of their choice through this annual competition.

The annual Mayor's Art Scholarship competition fosters collaboration among Houston-area high school fine arts departments and recognizes excellence in student art, which expresses cultural identities and features of life in Houston area neighborhoods. Through the Mayor's Art Scholarship, the City of Houston and Houston Arts Partners promote visual arts in the city, providing a forum for self-expression and creative thinking, recognizing achievement and excellence in visual arts among high school students, and fostering art as a means to strengthen relationships amongst students, communities and higher education.

Thank you to the Mayor's Office, the Office of Education Initiatives, the Office of Cultural Affairs, participating school districts, fine arts teachers, students, arts organization partners, and jurors.

Roberts Elementary Showcases The Lion King
The fifth grade students  of HISD's Roberts Elementary shine in a Broadway-worthy production
Congratulations to our Roberts Elementary students, parents, teachers, and administrators who shined with a performance of The Lion King performed by 5th grade students, a performance of Music Man by 4th grade students a nd We Haz Jazz by the 3rd grade students during the 2015-16 school year. Through our 10-year partnership with Roberts Elementary, artists working side-by-side with educators have provided meaningful arts experiences to the children of this Houston Independent School District campus. 

Roberts Elementary is an IB World School and  encourages responsible citizenship with an appreciation of cultural diversity that is seen everyday within their own international student body.  Roberts Elementary promotes academic excellence and is recognized as a top performing school within the district and state.  
 
A special thanks to Young Audiences artists, staff, and especially the Roberts Elementary team and parents for making this a huge success and providing critical arts-based learning both during the day and after school to their students and families. 


Classical Music in Our Schools
Young Audiences brings grant-funded classical arts programs to schools with limited access to quality arts experiences
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we are excited to announce that we will be providing a limited amount of  funded Classical Music Programs during the 2016-17 school year to schools whose students have limited access to these opportunities. We recognize the value of exposing children to classical music, both as an important component of every child's education and as a crucial investment in future of Houston's arts and culture sector. 

Applications for the Classical Music Program performances are due August 15, 2016. All schools are eligible to apply. For questions, please call 713.520.9267.

Collaborative Professional Development
Young Audiences of Houston provides arts-based professional development sessions for Arts Access Initiative partner organizations and schools this summer
In the fall of 2015, Young Audiences of Houston's partnership with Houston Independent School District and the City of Houston was recognized by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts  with the prestigious designation of Any Given Child City for Phase Two implementation of the Arts Access Initiative. 

Thanks to our generous supporters, Young Audiences of Houston is pleased to offer training by the Kennedy Center,  Mapping the Journey: Planning Effective Residencies for Students in June at  The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts to Arts Access Initiative partner organizations and Houston Independent School District educators, administrators, and principals.

Arts and Digital Literacy
Young Audiences of Houston partners with the Texas Cultural Trust to offer Arts and Digital Literacy Professional Development to Houston-area educators
Young Audiences of Houston is pleased to announce our partnership with the Arts and Digital Media Literacy Initiative, a program of the Texas Cultural Trust and the University of Texas Fine Arts Department, which bridges fine arts education and technology. Through this partnership, Young Audiences of Houston will be able to provide partner schools and Houston-area educators with opportunities to participate in the 2nd Annual Arts & Digital Learning Institute.  The initiative is a project-based, fine arts curriculm for high school students that establishes the connection between traditional fine arts education and digital media.  

 

College Students Give Back
Young Audiences of Houston welcomes four college interns this summer to create new opportunities for youth through arts-based learning and innovation
These paid summer internships put Young Audiences of Houston's mission into practice by providing college students with the opportunity to integrate the arts into schools, hospitals, and youth-service centers and explore the importance of creative learning for all children. 

Each candidate was selected for her commitment to quality arts-based programs, strategies, advocacy, and awareness for youth in the greater Houston region. They will all contribute, collaborate, and learn about the field of arts-in-education by working with Young Audiences of Houston team members throughout the summer.

Young Audiences of Houston is deeply grateful to ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program, Shell Nonprofit Internship Program, Volunteer Houston, and our Donors for supporting these critically needed learning opportunities for college students in the fields of arts education.
