Ashley Siegel's Maternity Leave
A shley Siegel, DNA's community relations coordinator, welcomed her son, Arthur Matthew Siegel, on June 10. He measured in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce and 19.25 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great!

Ashley Siegel will be out on maternity leave for 12 weeks. During that time, Ashley Espinoza, project coordinator, will be your contact. Ashley Espinoza has been with DNA for over two years and has worked with volunteers at many events. You will be in great hands!

Volunteer Spotlight: Mark Larson
Q: How long have you been a volunteer?
A: I became a volunteer shortly after my second kidney transplant in 1996. I moved to PA in 1999, and started volunteering again after I returned to Arizona in 2006. In total, I have been a volunteer for more than 10 years.

Q: Where are you from, and when did you come to Arizona?
A:  As an Air Force brat I lived in many places growing up. I moved from Virginia to Arizona for graduate school in 1976.

Q: What is an interesting fact about you?
A: This October 16 will be the 20th anniversary of my second renal transplant.

Q: Who is in your family?
A: My sister, Ellen, gave me a perfectly matched kidney in June 1985 to save my life. She's doing well and has never had a problem with her remaining kidney. I also have a brother, Jim, who lives in Charlotte, NC. He's always been a rock of support for me.

Q: What are your favorite vacation spots?
A: I just returned from my 13th trip to Costa Rica, so I suppose it qualifies as my favorite vacation destination. I started going there in 1998 to see toucans, parrots and other tropical species of birds. The people are so friendly that I enjoy visiting them as much as I enjoy seeing the wonderful birds.

Q: What books are on your nightstand?
A: "Oral History of the Yavapai" by Carolina Butler, ed. et al., "Rachel Carson and Her Sisters" by Robert Musil, "Annals of the Former World" by John McPhee and "Rosalie Edge: Hawks of Mercy" by Dyana Furmansky.

Q: Why are you passionate about organ, eye and tissue donation?
A: At 29 years old, I was an avid outdoorsman: birder, fly fisherman, backcountry hiker and backpacker. I was diagnosed with a severe kidney disease and given 18 months before I would need a transplant. Now, after two transplants, I have lived more than half my life that I would not have otherwise lived. I've done so many special things in those years and, I think, touched many people who may not have known the benefits of organ and tissue donation had they not heard my story. I am close to my second donor's family and they consider me part of their family. I have been blessed in so many ways as a result of organ donation that I can't help being passionate!

Driven2SaveLives Indy 500 Campaign
Donate Life participated in a campaign designed to promote organ donation around the Indianapolis 500 in May. Indiana resident Stefan Wilson competed in the 100th running of the Indy 500 in honor of his brother, IndyCar driver Justin Wilson.

Justin died in a crash last year and saved five lives as an organ donor. Stefan, now a registered donor, partnered with Indiana Donor Network to increase awareness about the amazing impact of donation.

Donate Life Arizona and other organ procurement organizations across the country shared donation statistics related to the Indy 500 on social media throughout the month of May and encouraged people to register as organ, eye and tissue donors on the campaign website.

Visit Driven2SaveLives.org to learn more about Stefan's story and for a full recap of the campaign.
