July 4th
Start off your Fourth of July by strapping on your running shoes for the 3rd Annual All-America City Red, White, and Blue 5K, a jaunt that takes runners right down the parade route. It's a color run - our first ever - thanks to the City's Community Enhancement Fund. You can run or walk, or simply be on the sidelines to cheer on the runners. Runners will be blasted with red, white, and blue, emerging at the end exhilarated
- and remarkably colorful!

Next up is the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Parade down Coloma Road, and you're the star! It's a community institution with a new twist: come hear leading youth bands while they compete for big prize money and cheer for those participating in the Children's Bike Decoration challenge, as they all parade down Coloma Road. These additions are made possible by the City's Community Enhancement Fund.

Follow the patriotic parade into Hagan Park for lively music and plenty of entertainment. Fill up on festival food, wander through exhibits, play some games, check out the BMX shows, and more. Gather with old and new friends at the Beer Gardens and enjoy live music by Rancho Cordova's own "Auto Reverse," who will
be rockin' from 6 to 8 p.m. Then the action shifts to the concert stage at 8:15 p.m. for an exuberant dance party with "Superlicious" - our favorite party band. At 9:45 p.m., it's KA-BOOM! The Fireworks Spectacular fills the sky for a dazzling ending to a fabulous day in Rancho Cordova.
For everybody's safety, leave the fireworks and grilling to the pros, and please leave pets at home - they are not permitted at the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July. Hagan Park is also reserved for the celebration, so the Dog Park will be closed on both days.
Join us for Rancho Cordova's biggest party! Discount carnival ride tickets are available, so save money while taking in the thrills! Check out new attractions and all the details at

FIREWORKS SAFETY
Stay Safe and Sane
Let's have fun and stay safe this holiday! Here are some easy tips you can follow to help reduce the number of injuries and fires caused by fireworks every year.
- Do not use, buy, or sell any illegal fireworks.
- Never try to modify, relight, or change fireworks.
- Do not let children light fireworks. It is illegal for anyone under 18 to use them.
- Dispose of used fireworks in a bucket of water.
- Have a garden hose ready in case of fire.
- Avoid lighting fireworks in these areas:
- Under a tree or near bushes
- Near dry grass
- Under a canopy, covered patio, or covered balcony
- Near flammable materials
Legal fireworks have the State Fire Marshal SAFE & SANE seal on the package and will be sold at legitimate fireworks booths, beginning on June 28th, 2016. A good rule of thumb is if it leaves the ground, explodes, or sends sparks higher than 12 feet, it is NOT a legal firework. Fireworks are allowed during the time period beginning at noon on June 28th, 2016 and ending at 10 p.m. on July 4th, 2016.

Caring for Your Pets
Watch Kerry Simpson, Neighborhood Services manager for the City of Rancho Cordova, sit in a hot car and see how high the temperature rises in only 3 minutes.
As the weather gets hotter, don't forget about your pets! Never leave your dog, cat, or any pet in a parked car. The temperature in a car can exceed 120 degrees in only minutes, and your pet can suffer from brain damage or die from suffocation. If your pet is exposed to high temperatures, follow these tips from the Humane Society.
Look for signs of heat stress:
- Rapid pulse
- Heavy panting
- Glazed eyes
- Vomiting
- Deep red or purple tongue
If you see these signs, take your pet to the veterinarian immediately. If you see an animal in a car with signs of heat stress:
- Call local animal control. You can reach the City of Rancho Cordova Animal Services at (916) 851-8852.
- Get the license plate number, enter the nearest store, and ask them to make an announcement about the pet.
- Go back and wait at the vehicle for Animal Services.

We all enjoy the fireworks during the Fourth of July, but be aware that many pets are terrified of the noise and flashing lights. Pets can become anxious and often become destructive or try to keep themselves safe by escaping. Here are a few ways to care for your animals during the holiday:
- Keep your pets indoors and away from fireworks.
- Turn on a radio or TV to help hide the loud noises.
- Do not put your dog in a crate to stop them from being destructive; Fido might hurt itself trying to escape.
- Ask your veterinarian if there is any medication your pet can take to reduce anxiety. Do not try to medicate your pet with human medicine.
- Make sure your animal has a collar with an ID tag, just in case they get out.
