Children Using Dating and Social Apps
Recently, a popular dating app has restricted its age limit to create an account to 18 or over, due to
public concerns and criticism about teens having such easy access to it.
Prior to this change, a use
r only needed to be 13 or older to create an account, and users between 13 and 17 would only be able to connect to one another.
Of course even with the new restriction, there are ways around it, just as there are ways around restrictions on several other social and dating applications available for phones and other devices.
Teens are consistently keeping up with the latest applications, and could potentially meet strangers that they have communicated with through these applications. Parents need to ensure they are
aware of what their children are using on their mobile devices.

A Stranger's Window Into Your Child's Life
A social app known as "Chat Roulette" currently boasts the ability to connect with random people through the front facing camera of your phone, and allows you to have a video chat.
You may end the communication with the person you are connected to at any time, however, there are several concerns using the application. There is no age restriction to create an account, and it is notoriously known for being an application used by predators.

Private Photos Can Go Viral
One of the most popular applications teens are currently using is "Snapchat," an application that allows its users to send messages that will disappear after a certain period of time. It gives teens the impression that what they send cannot be copied and be spread publicly, which is completely false.
It only takes one person to take a screen shot of an image or take a photo with another device, and the image that they sent is saved and can be spread to whomever the receiver wishes to send it to.
This has occurred on so many occasions and the effects can be devastating to a teen, opening them up to public ridicule and bullying.
