IDOT To Shut Down Road Construction Projects

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has sent notice to their contractors to stop all construction and prepare to make construction work zones safe for a possible “long term” shut down by June 30. This road construction shut down is due to the lack of a state budget and an appropriation.

This will impact several Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) projects where federal funding is administered by IDOT:

  • Washington Street Grade Separation
  • Ela at Route 12 intersection improvement
  • Deerfield Road - in the Village of Deerfield and City of Highland Park
  • Waukegan Road (IL 43) Traffic Signal improvements

While the State of Illinois is shutting down their construction projects due to their budget woes, there will be no impact on the 176/83/60 project on the west side of Mundelein.

The State’s budget problems have no impact on the highway project. The $5 million dollar funding from the State was given to the Village more than 4 years ago. The project is 100% funded.

The Hawley Street reconstruction project will not be impacted by this either.

The legislature is meeting this week to discuss a stop gap budget. This situation could change if a bill passes that includes funding for transportation.

Com Ed Scam
ComEd has seen an increase in reports of individuals calling ComEd customers and falsely claiming their electric service will be disconnected unless payment is made.

Hawthorn Woods Residents have reported fraudulent phone calls urging them to provide their ComEd account number to renew the Village's electric aggregation rate. This is a scam to get residents to switch to a higher cost provider. As a reminder, there is no need for residents to renew with the electric aggregation program.  Once enrolled in the program, the low rate will continue until 2017.  These impersonators instruct customers to buy a prepaid credit card and call back to a different phone number with the personal identification number (PIN) or other personal information. They also use a tactic called "spoofing" to manipulate the Caller ID displayed phone number so that it appears as a ComEd number. Remember, ComEd representatives will never call you to ask you for cash or request that you purchase a prepaid credit card to make a payment on your bill. If you have concerns about the status of your account, call ComEd's Customer Service line at 1-800-334-7661(1-800-EDISON1).
