Over $2.9 Billion in FREE College
Money Goes
Unclaimed by Students - Why?
Students don't apply, don't complete the application, don't complete the application on time, or neglect to complete their FASFA form. Don't add to this number.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Avoid simple application errors. "Read and follow all the directions closely, and proof your essay and contact information,"
- Don't count yourself out. You don't need high SATs and ACTs or even a 4.0 GPA to apply for scholarship dollars
- Remember accomplishments and community service counts. Don't forget to ask organizations you are a member of if they have scholarship opportunities, and don't forget to include them on your applications.
- Shop around now for the best recommendation letters. Don't assume a favorite teacher will write a glowing letter. Even if a teacher believes you are the best student he's taught in his entire career, he may not be a compelling writer. Ask several potential recommenders to write letters.
- Talk to school officials. Some of the best scholarships require a nomination from your school. Make sure your counselor and teachers are familiar with your accomplishments, especially the things you've done outside of school
- Last but not least call us and visit the UNCF website. We will help!
Good luck
