MESSAGE FROM PASTOR

Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

On Wednesday, not long after sunrise, Pastor Jon, Sarah Salkeld, Amy Benson, Debbie Saylor and a crew of younger youth gathered in our parking lot for prayer and to head out to their mission project in Baltimore.  (See pictures below.) They have been working hard at Paul's Place.  Keep them in your prayers.  They will be back on Saturday.

The Center Baltimore mission trip at Paul's Place

Riverwise project update.   On Sunday, we will read scripture from 2 Kings 2.  Elijah and Elisha, cross the Jordan on dry land.  Tuesday of this week, we had some serious rain in Odenton, inches I think.  Our new Riverwise rain garden performed admirably.  In addition, the garden took on all the water from the driveway/parking lot area and 15 minutes after the downpour there was only a medium puddle.  People were able to enter the church on dry land!  Imagine that.

The newly planted rain garden during a heavy downpour, June 21.

Heavy downpour redirected to rain garden to gradually percolate into the soil.

On Sunday there will be an unusual insert in your bulletin: A Time and Talents inventory survey.  Our Discipleship and Outreach and Connection Ministries hope you will fill one out and turn it in.   It will help our elders and team leaders to connect with our members. (You already filled one out ten years ago, yeah we know, some of you did.  We would like a fresh start.)

Peace of Christ,
Tim

VERSE AND HOUSEHOLD PRAYER

Elisha Becomes Elijah's Disciple

So he set out from there, and found Elisha son of Shaphat, who was ploughing. There were twelve yoke of oxen ahead of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and threw his mantle over him. He left the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, 'Let me kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you.' Then Elijah said to him, 'Go back again; for what have I done to you?' He returned from following him, took the yoke of oxen, and slaughtered them; using the equipment from the oxen, he boiled their flesh, and gave it to the people, and they ate. Then he set out and followed Elijah, and became his servant.**
  -- from 1 Kings 19

** Commentary - The fact that Elisha killed his Oxen and threw a feast, meant he was never coming back.  He left farming permanently to become a prophet.

Household Prayer: Morning

O God of steadfast love and faithfulness, as I awaken this day in expectation, I turn my heart toward you, for I am your beloved. Fill me with your wisdom and insight, and guide my feet into the way of peace as I walk your righteous path. Amen.

Household Prayer: Evening

Recounting both the blessings and challenges of this day, I give thanks to you, O God, for my hope is in Christ who makes all things new, and so I rest this night. Amen.

TES FOR YOU

Happy summer!  Over the past year, I have been getting some requests to know what the songs are for Sunday worship.  So, over the next few weeks I would like to share our songs.  If you would like to be on the band email list, let me know!  It is the best way to know about upcoming projects and rehearsals if you are interested in taking part in making music with us!
