Summer Services at Union Church 
Starting on July 3rd and running thoughout the month, we will gather at  5:00 p.m.  on Sundays for worship. Come as you are, whether just back from the beach or straight from the garden. These services are more informal and provide an opportunity to sing, reflect and pray together.  If you are interested in giving a reflection, contribute your music talents, or have some other way you'd like to participate in these services, please see Pastor Stacy.

Fellowship and Spirituality
Save the Date!  Youth Mountain Adventure and Camping Trip: Oct.1 , and 2 .

UCW youth will be heading for the mountains this fall to climb a peak, swim in a pond, enjoy the great outdoors, and share time together around a campfire. Timeframe is early departure October 1st returning early evening October 2nd.  Details and sign-up information to follow, but mark your calendars now so you won't miss the big youth event of the fall. All - Church Retreat Planning
Calling all who are interested in helping to plan the next all church retreat.  If you think the retreat is a fun and rejuvenating experience, you should try being on the planning team!  Seriously!  It is a wonderful opportunity to grow in fellowship and faith with your fellow UCWers as we dream of what the retreat could be and then have the joy of realizing that dream together.  If you are interested in participating in the planning team, please reach out to Pastor Stacy
Mission Outreach 
Summer Cookouts for Families that are Homeless

graphic-bbq-dad.jpg Last summer many of you participated in our summer cookouts for the families living in nearby motels. They were a huge success. Several churches in Newton are now coming together to host five cookouts at Eliot Church. If you are interested in participating in one or more of these events please contact Pastor Stacy. She will maintain a Sign-Up Genius that lists the dates and areas where you can help out, and will forward the list along. 
 
The dates of the cookouts are July 10th , and August 7th and 21st. Set up and food prep will begin around 11:30 a.m. with the cookout beginning at 12:30 p.m., and ending around  2:30 p.m.  We will need help with set up and clean up, food preparation and serving, games and crafts with the children, hosts at the tables. Be a part of a joyful, fun event. Get to know your neighbors and members of other churches here in Newton. 

ABCD, the non profit organization that supports the families in the motels is also hosting a cook out on July 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 
Smith Field, 1120 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.  If you are interested in helping with that cookout please also be in touch with Stacy.  (Stacy @ucw.org) 

Nicaragua Service Trip -- Spring 2018

Are you thinking that you may want to travel to Nicaragua on the next mission/service trip?  If so we would love to hear about it.  Even though the trip is a ways off still, the planning has begun.  If you are even a little bit interested or curious please go here and complete this survey.  Your input with help in the planning.  Gracias!

Matsiko World Orphan Choir  is coming to 
First Baptist Church  in Newton

The Matsiko World Orphan Choir is performing on Friday evening, July 8, 2016 from 7:30-9 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Newton.   The choir consists of children from Liberia, Peru and India.  Their mission is to share a message of hope for the world's 600 million orphaned and at-risk children by performing energetic and dynamic cultural dances in full vibrant costumes and songs that are primarily original.  They have performed all over the United States in schools, churches, professional sporting events, multicultural events and more.   You can see them in performance HERE .

There is no charge for this event however there will be a basket for donations, plus a chance to purchase homemade goods, e.g., hats, bags, dolls, jewelry, from the children's countries. CD's and T-shirts will also be sold.



The First Baptist Church will be offering hospitality to the 22 member choir and their seven chaperones.  They will stay with us in the Evert's Room on sleeping bags and air mattresses provided by us.  Or, if able, you can  host 2-3 members/ a chaperone at your home  We will provide dinner before the show, bedtime snacks, and breakfast on Saturday morning.  A few folks have already offered food for the night.    Please contact the church office (617-244-2997) for offering help in any way you can.

Donations Drive for Mom Donating Kidney to Her Son
Do you have any unwanted stuff for donation? If so, please send it my way. I'm collecting the following items because the son of my friend, Florence Agbor, is in kidney failure -- recently out of a coma -- and awating a kidney transplant (taking dialysis 7 days a week).

Please donate:

-- Clothing
-- Shoes
-- Accessories
-- Books
-- Linens

*Small items only please, no furniture.

Good news is that Florence is a match and will soon give a kidney to her son, Achuo. This clothing drive will help raise funds for surgery 
and aftercare (Florence's insurance is limited).
