SHJ President Richard Logan Interviews with United Coalition of Reason

SHJ is delighted to welcome Dr. Richard Logan as the new president of our board of directors!

Richard, a long term member and leader of Or Emet Congregation for Humanistic Judaism, our Twin Cities, MN affiliate, is a retired professor and author, and a strong supporter of Humanistic Judaism. He is deeply committed to helping others experience the value of involvement in the Humanistic Jewish movement, and has clear and realistic goals for SHJ's future.

Richard sat down with United Coalition of Reason's Shelagh Talbot to discuss what he would like readers to know about SHJ.  They also discussed SHJ's plans for presence at this year's Reason Rally in Washington, DC.   Click here  to read the full interview.

United Coalition of Reason was founded in 2009 and is one of the largest non-theist groups in North America.

Center for Secular Humanism Opens in the Birmingham Temple

Birmingham Temple member, Suzanne Paul, recently announced the opening of the Center for Secular Humanism (CSH) which is housed in the Temple. Suzanne, past President of the American Humanist Association (AHA) in 1991, will serve as its first president and executive director.

The CSH will serve the role of a clearinghouse for the various humanist groups in the Detroit metro area. Suzanne plans to assist in coordinating events for secular groups and to offer secular programming and activities for the community.

Suzanne brings with her a lifetime of commitment and experience in Humanistic causes. In addition to her service as AHA president, she is a graduate of the very first class of The Humanist Institute. After graduating, she began a distinguished career as Humanist Leader / minister to Unitarian Universalist (UU) congregations in the Detroit metro area that continued for nearly 30 years. Last June, she retired from the UU, but has remained very active in the Humanist causes and groups that she has served for forty years. Locally, she is on the board of the newly formed Humanists of Southeastern Michigan group. Nationally, she continues to serve the AHA as a member of its Endowment Board.
