Thinking of NALS certification?  Haven't done so yet?  Think it is too late because of . . . your age?  How wrong you are!  We are ALL living longer than ever and changing jobs or vocational practice areas as often, sometimes, as our shoes. 

Font Size Does Matter
 
I am always amazed at the amount of information I receive at the NALS Annual Education Conferences. One of the things that really stuck with me from the conference I attended in Portland was a name that perfectly describes something I see a lot-Frankenbrief.

In Memoriam- Don Akins


We are deeply saddened to report that NALS Honorary Member Don Akins passed away on June 9, 2016. Don graciously donated countless hours sharing his knowledge in law firm management with NALS members. Don has spoken at many past national as well as past state and local meetings and conferences throughout the country. Don was friend and mentor to many as well as husband to NALS Past President Barbara Akins, PLS. Don left this world a better place for having been here.
NALS Foundation Summer 2016 Grant Winner: NALS of Pierce County!

The NALS Foundation Trustees are excited to announce the recipient of June 2016 Grant:

NALS of Pierce County's grant application was approved and they were awarded $625 to purchase certification books and materials.

Certifying Board ( 1 Opening )

Interested in promoting and creating legal education and certification? Then this is the task force for you. Learn and create exam preparation materials  for potential and current NALS members and examinees. A few requirements: PLS/CLP and/or PP certified, current NALS member, and two-year minimum commitment. 


Education Products Task Force ( 2 Openings )

Interested in expanding and bringing legal education and certification online? Then this is the task force for you! Create mock exams for examinees and those looking to further their education within our new online learning management system. A few re quirements: PLS/CLP and/or PP certified, current NALS member, and one-year commitment. This task force is awarded CLE for their volunteer time. 


Ed On Demand Task Force ( 3 Openings )

Build and use your legal professional network to organize and schedule legal education for your fellow NALS members. Requirements include: online/email access, ability to attend web meetings throughout the year, and willingness to cold-call or email to gain potential speakers. One-year commitment preferred. Resources are provided.

NALS Annual Legal Professional Conference
 
IRS Form 990-N Filing Deadline
 
It is that time of year again for tax-exempt organizations with fiscal years ending April 30 and gross receipts of $50,000 or less per year to file the IRS Form 990, also known as the "e-postcard."  You may file now and the deadline for filing is September 15.  Those organizations with calendar years ending December 31 must file by May 15.

Perfecting UCC Financing Statements/Avoiding Costly Mistakes

This session will explore the various methods of perfecting a UCC Financing Statement along with potential discrepancies and industry standards associated with filing. If you have filed a UCC against a borrower and made a mistake in typing in a debtor's name, for example, you would have created a hidden lien that could come back to haunt you after a deal or case has closed.
