MABLETON IMPROVEMENT COALITION

NEWSLETTER

May 1, 2015

From the President...

We have a lot of fun coming up in Mableton - Mableton Day, food trucks, concerts and more that will be announced in future newsletters.  We are really fortunate to have such wide variety of events and we recognize the vital role that volunteers play in so many of them.

Recently, MIC honored this dedication with our first annual Volunteer Luncheon.  We had a wonderful lunch and - the best part of all - time to talk and get to know each other.  Usually, when we see each other we are too busy working to get in any "quality social time."  Please join me in thanking the dozens of people who help make our community work!

When South Cobb gathers on Mableton Day, MIC will be in the thick of it all!  Come by our tent and talk with us, renew your membership or just say hello.  MIC volunteers will be staffing the welcome/information area.  If you have some time that day and would like to join the effort, contact Robin Meyer.  You'll be under a tent, helping folks find their destinations and meeting new friends.

See you at Mableton Day!  In the meanwhile, feel free to get in touch.  I'm always ready to talk about Mableton!

Sincerely,

Zoning News
Coming up in May...

The hearing for the application for a subdivision on Old Alabama Road (Z-86) on zoning sign small property surrounding New Harvest Baptist Church has been postponed again to the May 5th Planning Commission hearing.  A revised R-15 plan with an open space overlay has been presented and MIC has decided to drop its opposition if the developer will agree to some stipulations that further improve the appearance of the neighborhood and provide usable open space.

An application for a Land Use Permit at 1811 Lafayette Drive (LUP-11) will be heard by the Planning Commission on May 5th.  The owner of the property is requesting approval to park 8 vehicles at this home.  The MIC Board has voted to oppose this application and is working with neighbors who are also in opposition.

On May 13, the Board of Zoning Appeals will hear a variance application for an ATM installation in the shopping center at 6200 Mableton Parkway (V-40) at the corner of Mableton Parkway and Factory Shoals Road.  The MIC Board has voted to drop its opposition to this application if the property owner will agree to make safety and appearance improvements to the property before the ATM is installed.

Also on May 13, the Board of Zoning Appeals will consider an application from the owner of 414 Francis Drive (V-82) seeking permission to drive and park vehicles on an unhardened surface.  The MIC Board has voted to oppose this application.

Coming up in June...

On the corner of Floyd Road and White Blvd. (Z-52), an application has been filed for a Hardee's restaurant.  MIC has met with the applicant's attorney and would like to hear from Mableton residents about this application.

An application has been filed by the owner of 5751 Powell Drive (Z-54) for rezoning from residential and planned shopping center zoning categories to CRC (commercial/retail center) for an existing automotive paint and body shop.

Art Frame, LLC, located at 516 Veterans Memorial Highway (near the intersection with Pebblebrook Road) (Z-59) would like to change the zoning of adjacent property from Neighborhood Retail Commercial to Light Industrial in order to expand.

Questions? Want to get involved? Contact Robin Meyer, MIC Zoning Committee Chair. Also plan to attend Commissioner Lisa Cupid's monthly Community Zoning Meeting in Mableton.  The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 27th at 6pm at the South Cobb Community Center at 620 Lions Club Drive in Mableton.
