From the President...

I hope you had a fun Thanksgiving weekend and are on your way to enjoying a great holiday season. We are excited to report that Secret Santas are shopping for all the children at the Boys & Girls Club involved in this annual MIC holiday project. Our sincerest thanks to Janis Stevenson, MIC's Vice President, for again managing this project and to the great staff at the Boys & Girls Club, especially Christopher Collins, the Club Director, and Renee Little at the front desk.  The Club's Christmas will be even merrier thanks to a generous donation from Patterson Services, Inc., located on Riverview Road.  Our thanks to this Mableton business for its support of our community.

Be sure to enjoy the holiday fun at the Mable House Arts Center. We have all the details below.  As always, please feel free to call or email.  I'm always ready to talk about Mableton!

Sincerely,

MIC Volunteers at Mable's Tea Room
Friday and Saturday, December 5th and 6th
For the last several years, MIC volunteers have "adopted" Mable's Tea Room, providing Tea Room volunteers and homemade cakes and soups for this wonderful Mableton tradition.  In return, the South Cobb Arts Alliance, which sponsors the event, makes a donation to MIC.  The Tea Room has become an important fundraiser for MIC as well as a chance to serve our friends and neighbors.

Plan now to come for lunch on Friday or Saturday and support MIC's efforts. Many of our volunteers from last year will be returning, but we do have some volunteer spaces left and we can always use more cakes.  Email J.R. White to volunteer or for more information.  Volunteering is a lot of fun, so come join us!

The Mommy & Me Teas will be held on Sunday, December 7th at noon and 2:30pm. Children and their mothers, aunts, grandmothers and special friends enjoy a light lunch served by their favorite princesses!  Tables seat 4, 6 or 8 and range from $40 to $80. Reservations are required; call 770 819-3265.

Holiday Shopping at the Mable House Arts Center
Friday, December 5th through Sunday, December 14th

Some of the best holiday shopping is right here in Mableton - at the 30th annual Christmas House Arts & Crafts Show held at the Mable House Arts Center at 5239 Floyd Road. You can select from a wide variety of handmade gifts from 60+ exhibitors who have brought you jewelry, pottery, fiber and wood arts, glass, home dcor, food and bath items, holiday decorations and fine art. If you are looking for something unique for someone very special or gifts for teachers and kids in the neighborhood - this should be the first place you look!

The Christmas House is open this year from Friday, December 5th through Sunday, December 14th.  The hours are 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday and 2pm to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. The Christmas House is produced each year by the volunteers of the South Cobb Arts Alliance.  Support our local artists and the Arts Alliance with your holiday purchases.

Silent Auction Fundraiser for Historic Mable House

Zoning News
In November....
zoning sign small

The Board of Commissioners granted commercial zoning to Nature's Supply Center (Z-80) at 4419 Floyd Road with stipulations that will screen the business from Floyd Road and the Silver Comet Trail.

In December...

An application has been filed for a subdivision on Old Alabama Road (Z-86) on property surrounding New Harvest Baptist Church.  The application is for 42 homes on this 18 acre tract in the RA-5 zoning category.  The existing zoning is R-15 for 27 homes.  The MIC Board voted to oppose this application because the density does not fit the character of the surrounding neighborhoods and there are unresolved issues about stormwater and the layout and look of the community.  The application was set to be heard by the Planning Commission on Tuesday, December 2nd, but it will be postponed until the next hearing which is February 3rd, 2015. Neighbors are circulating a petition in opposition to the development, preferring instead the current zoning.  MIC will remain in contact with the applicant's attorney and we will keep you informed.
