Pia Mellody on the Disease of Co-Dependence
The Dating and Relationship Group
Pia Mellody is a world-renowned expert on love and sex addiction, and the disease of co-dependence. For our next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on April 5, 2014, I will discuss her compelling youtube video on co-dependence which I encourage you to watch before we meet.
In this video, Mellody presents her view of the fundamental symptoms of co-dependence, including her insightful depictions of how "allergies" of the self, gaps in self-knowledge, shame, and faulty boundaries negatively impact our personal relationships and our way of living. In my view, Mellody's symptoms of co-dependence underlay how we tend to create relationships that are familiar yet ultimately unfulfilling. After my presentation, there will be ample time for questions and answers, and for sharing, among participants.
Marc Brackett on Emotional Intelligence
The Men's Group
Much has been written about emotional intelligence, but in my view it remains largely misunderstood. Dr. Marc Brackett, director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, offers an interesting youtube presentation on emotions, relationships, learning, and intrapersonal regulation. In our next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, April 5, 2014, I will discuss Brackett's main ideas and their application to masculine development and men's lives. I encourage you to watch the video before the group on Saturday, if possible.

The Men's Group will meet at 10:45 AM to 12:00 PM noon, and the Dating and Relationship Group at 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM. The fee is $25.00, and there is a limit of 12 people for each group.
