Industry Introduces Rebates to help Bridge Gap to the Effective Date of the FAA's ADS-B Rebate Program
Following the recent Federal Aviation Administration $500 ADS-B Rebate program announcement, which is expected to have an effective date sometime in September 2016, it did not take the general aviation industry long to respond with creative promotional strategies designed to incentivize those aircraft owners who do not want to wait until the FAA Rebate program's effective date to install ADS-B Out compliant equipment

 For example, Avidyne introduced its "Don't Wait" ADS-B Rebate. The Avidyne $500 rebate offer is good for ADS-B compliant equipment for U.S.-registered single-engine piston aircraft placed between June 17 and Sept. 30, 2016. To learn more about Avidyne's offer, click here.
 In addition, FreeFlight Systems announced it is offering a $500 Bridge Rebate on its ADS-B and WAAS/GPS solutions for all aircraft types. FreeFlight customers must take delivery of their system by Sept. 30, 2016, or when the FAA's ADS-B Rebate program becomes effective this fall, whichever comes first. FreeFlight Systems' Bridge Rebate Program covers products from the company's RANGR Blue and WAAS/GPS product families. To learn more about FreeFlight's offer, click here.
The FAA announced a $500 rebate incentive on June 6, which is designed for general aviation aircraft owners who equip their U.S.-registered, fixed-wing, single-engine piston aircraft with required ADS-B Out avionics technology. The FAA rebates are available on a first-come, first-served basis for one year, or until all 20,000 rebates are claimed, whichever comes first. The FAA estimates that as many as 160,000 aircraft need to be equipped by the Jan. 1, 2020, deadline. To learn more about the FAA's ADS-B Rebate program, click here.
 FAA Publishes Rules for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems
On Tuesday, June 21, the FAA announced it has finalized the first operational rules for
routine commercial use of small unmanned aircraft systems. According to the agency, these new regulations work to harness new innovations safely, to spur job growth, advance critical scientific research and save lives. The new rule takes effect in late August and applies to unmanned aircraft drones weighing less than 55 pounds that are conducting non-hobbyist operations.
Under the final rule, the person actually flying a drone must be at least 16 years old and have a remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating, or be directly supervised by someone with such a certificate.

2015 General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey
The 38th annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey is now underway. It is the Federal Aviation Administration's primary source of information about the size and activity of the general aviation and on-demand Part 135 fleet. The survey is conducted on behalf of the FAA by Tetra Tech, an independent research firm, and all survey responses are confidential. Tetra Tech would like to hear from everyone who receives an invitation to complete the survey to prepare accurate statistics on aviation activity. New FAA Course -- Applying Systems Safety Principles to Product Certification: Aug. 16-18

received EASA approval of its IFD540 and IFD440 GPS-based Flight Management Systems.
UNIVERSAL AVIONICS SYSTEMS CORP. said it is offering a new software version for the Satellite-Based Augmentation System-Flight Management System that includes cost-saving messaging to alert crews of a failure of the ADS-B Out system. In addition, the company said it is providing advanced avionics for two Sikorsky S-76B helicopters operated by His Majesty the Sultan of Johor's Royal Flight.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. said that its Auxiliary Power Unit repair and overhaul department recently completed its 1,000th APU repair. In addition, the company's new Product Support Distribution Center has begun the core operations of shipping and receiving parts. The company named MIKE WEST sales director for metro New York and JEFF COLE sales director for the Northeast U.S. and Eastern Canada. Gulfstream also completed ultimate load testing for the all-new Gulfstream G500.
KANSAS STATE POLYTECHNIC is expanding its unmanned commercial flight training program with North Dakota's SkySkopes as its first national client.
VECTOR AEROSPACE's Summerside, Prince Edward Island, facility was named one of the best places to work in Atlantic Canada by Progress magazine and Best Companies Group.
FIELD AVIATION named ROBERT BASEGGIO vice president of business development.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL said its third Airbus A320 full-flight simulator built for Wisesoft Corp. received Level D qualification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS and CMD FLIGHT SOLUTIONS expanded their AML STC to include Part 23 turbine aircraft, which allows for the installation of a FreeFlight 1203C SBAS/GNSS sensor paired with Rockwell Collins' TDR94/94D transponders for ADS-B compliance.
L-3 AVIATION PRODUCTS said its Lynx NGT-9000 was chosen by Martinaire Aviation LLC as the ADS-B solution for its Cessna Caravan turboprop cargo aircraft. Deliveries and installations have begun and are expected to be complete well ahead of the 2020 ADS-B mandate.
