High Holidays
At 8:00pm on September 13, our cantor and choir will begin to chant a Rosh Hashanah nigun to welcome our congregants and the beginning of the High Holidays. Once everyone is settled, our services will start.
Rabbi Jerry Cutler and Cantor Mike Burstyn will lead us through the prayers that we know so well, with passion, sanctity and a little humor thrown in here and there.
Projected on a screen on stage, Jewish art will spill color and ambiance.
Our incredible choir will transcend us as they raise their blended voices.
Storytellers will share a remembrance or an awareness of their experience of being Jewish. Some touching, some funny. But all stirring something so familiar within ourselves.
Meaningful readings reflecting on the Holiday and our people will be read.
Our guest soloists will arouse in us the essence of the New Year.
The Creative Arts Temple's High Holiday services are upon us. How can anyone pass on these very special days we'll spend together?
Join us at Beverly Vista School on Sept. 13 and 14 for Rosh Hashana and Sept. 22 and 23 for Yom Kippur.

Born in New York, Burstyn grew up in the field of Yiddish theater, the son of great performers Pesach'ke Burstein and Lillian Lux. He's the recipient of multiple Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle nominations and is no stranger to the bright lights of Broadway.
One of Israel's most beloved artists for over four decades (not to mention, the winner of two Israeli Oscars), his most recent credits include Jolson At The Winter Garden, Lansky, On 2nd Avenue, The Tale Of The Allergist's Wife, and most recently, he starred in the comedy O MY GOD. Komediant Screening
On Saturday, Sept 19 @ 7 pm
Join us as we screen the critically-acclaimed documentary "Komediant" which follows the life and careers of Yiddish superstars the Burstein Famiily! Pesachke Burstein, Lillian Lux, Susan Burstein-Roth and our very own, Mike Burstyn.
An exuberant tribute to the earthy, boisterous phenomenon of Yiddish theater. American musical comedy as we know it wouldn't exist without the precedent of Yiddish theater.
Mike will be on hand for a Q & A after the film.
More information on where the screening will be held to follow.

Arne's Corner
C O R R E C T I O N...................
Every day, and I do mean daily, we learn of some new, exciting, and beneficial "gizmo" that makes this world a better place to live. But it's not what's "new" that I want to talk about.
Reminisce with me............Does the name Bess Myerson mean anything to you?
The ONLY Jewish Miss America, crowned in the shadow of the Holocaust, in September, 1945. Bess Myerson died in Santa Monica about 6 months ago. She was 90 years old.
Born in The Bronx, the daughter of a house painter, Bess went from beauty pageant winner to media personality, appearing as a model, spokesperson and TV panelist.
A proud New Yorker and often-seen companion of Ed Koch during his 1977 campaign for Mayor. She went on to serve and distinguish herself as Commissioner of Cultural Affairs and then Commissioner of Consumer Affairs for the City of New York.
When asked to change her name for the famous beauty pageant, she refused, later commenting: "It was the most important decision I ever made. It told me, who I was, that I was first and foremost - a Jew".
I remember her well. You done good, girl.
REST IN PEACE.
