Over the past two years Derby's BEST, hosted by Walnut Hill Community Church's Derby Campus, with the goal of enhancing, enriching and improving the educational opportunities for the students of the Derby Public Schools, did just that for more than 1,200 children by providing funding for twenty projects, across many disciplines and grade levels, which were requested by the faculty and administrators of the district. We were able to do this because of the care, concern and participation of people like you.

    This year our goal is to grow the impact of our event to aide even more students! In order to do so we need people like you to come and walk or run with us; we need people who care about children and the education they receive.  

 

    Derby is a community which faces financial challenges in providing the education their children need. This means hard choices are often made, and unfortunately, programs, materials, and diagnostic / evaluative tools go unfunded. Derby's BEST is an attempt by those of us who care about the education of the children in Derby to bridge that gap and provide funding so that those hard choices can be reversed, and the education of Derby's children can be enhanced, enriched and improved beyond what normally would take place.  

    This year's event, like previous ones, will have a free raffle at the conclusion of the race, which will be preceded by the presentation of medallions to the top three male and female finishers in each category and trophies to the top three male and female finishers overall. Each participant is automatically entered into the raffle. Additional raffle tickets may also be purchased. Last year we gave away more than twenty raffle prizes, with products of local merchants as well as gifts certificates to local salons and restaurants, to name a few. It's just our way of saying thank you for coming and helping our kids.
