Just Sit! Silent meditation and learning
Wednesday, June 29 at 9am
in the Sanctuary
New morning meditation group is offered to Temple Isaiah community. Whether you are new to meditation or have a long standing practice, this group is a place to come and sit in quiet with optional discussion afterwards. We will meet in the Sanctuary for a half hour silent meditation time. After meditation, we will have question and discussion time with topics such as Mussar practice, how to quiet your mind, meditation and prayer. Ganeinu Jewish Playgroup

Temple Isaiah is proud to offer a free Jewish playgroup for parents and caregivers (we love grandparents at Ganeinu), and their infants and toddlers (0-30 months). Play, sing, and practice Shabbat and celebrate holidays with your child and others.
Midrash, Mysticism and Prayer
Saturday, July 2 at 9:15am in TTC 201
Please join us for a 6-week class on Shabbat mornings June 11, 18, 25; July 9, 16, 23 with Rabbi Oren Postrel. Midrash: How do we understand the complexities of Torah for today? We head back to our medieval past and find new understanding. These sessions will explore iconic passages from the Midrash and their authors. Mysticism/Hasidism: What are mystical practices in Judaism, where do they come from, and how are they different? Prayer: We will explore the structure of the Siddur (prayerbook) and find the differences between prayer, services, meditation and worship.Tuition: $36/members; $75/non-members

Our Mussar and Meditation Shabbat Service creates time for personal, reflective prayer, meditative chanting of powerful liturgical phrases, guided silences and group discussions of Mussar wisdom. Mussar, a Jewish path toward menschlichkeit, deepens our commitment to ethical behavior and a more compassionate embrace of the unique qualities we find in ourselves and others.

Shabbat in the Park

Hate driving in traffic? No problem! We're bringing Shabbat to you. Meet at Hap Magee Ranch for family-friendly services and bring your own picnic dinner, blankets and chairs. Bring your pets for a special pet blessing (dogs allowed on a leash). We hope to see you there! Mark your calendar for our next park date: Friday, August 19 at Heather Farm Park.
Services will also be held at Temple Isaiah.
Seeking High Holy Day Chanters
We are looking for individuals who are interested in chanting a Torah portion at High Holy Day services this year. Even if you have not chanted since your bar/bat mitzvah, this is a wonderful opportunity to rekindle your connection with Torah through publicly chanting these holiest of words. It's never too early to start practicing, so please call the temple or e-mail Cantor Korn (
[email protected]) to volunteer. Cantor Korn will provide all of the materials you need to be prepared for the holidays. Priority will be given to those who have not chanted on the High Holy Days before.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Cal State, East Bay, announces their Spring/Summer (May-August) 2016 program of lectures, courses & field excursions
Of special interest to temple members may be: "Dimished Democracy" by David Peritz, (Mondays, 1:30-3:30 p.m., July 11, 18, 25; August 1,8); or, "The Paris Peace Conference of 1919" by Larry Prud'homme, (Tuedays, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., July 12, 19,26; August 2,9). Monthly lectures & courses are presented on the Concord Campus of Cal State, East Bay at 4700 Ygnacio Valley Blvd., with ample free parking. Limmud Bay Area 2016
Friday, June 24-26 at Sonoma State University
Our own Jeanette Gross will be teaching a session on Sacred Chant Healing Circle at Limmud Bay Area's Jewish Learning Conference June 24 - 26 at Sonoma State University. Jeanette reports that there will be many wonderful learning opportunities and a very special celebration of Shabbat in a large and diverse community. She writes: "Some of the presenters are world renowned, like Cantor Linda Hirschhorn, Rabbi Yitz Greenberg, and Rabbi Amy Eilberg, and some are just regular folks like me who have something to share in the realm of Jewish learning."
