When & How Do I Include "Owner Agent" When I'm Selling a House I Own?
MLS Rule 5.2; Violation and Fine Structure 2.10.
Ownership interests.  If a Participant or any licensee affiliated with a Participant has ownership interest in a property, the listing of which is to be disseminated through MLS, that person shall disclose that interest when the listing is filed with the MLS and such information shall be disseminated to all MLS Participants in REALTOR® Remarks.

Caution: Including "owner/agent" in PUBLIC REMARKS could put you in jeopardy of violating MLS Violation 2.12: Fields Intending for Public Viewing may not include names or information intended to identify the owner, listing agent, listing broker or any entity receiving compensation for services directly related to the sale of the property including, but not limited to, auctioneers, asset managers, lenders and relocation companies.
How Do Nominating Committees Work?
This is the time of year when the CMR and MLS Nominating Committees, made up of Past Presidents, convene to nominate a slate of officers and directors for 2017 elections as outlined in their respective bylaws.

Let your interest be known by completing and submitting one or both of the self-interest surveys below:

The MLS Bylaws require the Nominating Committee to nominate a President-Elect, Treasurer and (2) Directors for each of the four open slots.  Only MLS Participants (Principal Brokers) can serve on the MLS Board of Directors. The deadline to submit your interest survey is Friday, July 1. Click here to submit your interest in serving the MLS Board of Directors.

The CMR Bylaws, on the other hand, require the Nominating Committee to nominate a slate running two members for Treasurer, two members for President-Elect and eight members for the four Director positions.  Any REALTOR® may serve on the CMR Board of Directors if elected. The deadline to submit your interest survey is Friday, July 15. Click here to submit your interest in serving the CMR Board of Directors.
Advocacy Update:
Background Check for New & Renewing Licensees
Our advocacy efforts were successful this legislative session where we "raised the bar" of those getting into and remaining in the real estate industry.  Effective July 1, 2016 new and renewing Mississippi licensees will be required by statute to undergo fingerprint-based criminal background checks. The protocol and other information for the background checks will be as follows:
  • MREC will send cards (including return envelope) to licensees
  • Licensees take cards to law enforcement agency for fingerprinting
  • Fee of $50 to be returned to MREC with cards (fee does not go to MREC)
  • Results to be returned to MREC within two weeks
  • MREC sends results to State/FBI
  • MREC checks results against licensee's application
  • Confidential storage of files
  • Not subject to open records act of state
  • No license issued with felony or on probation for felony conviction
