The Dating and Relationship Group:  Assessing Your Level of Mindfulness

The concept of "mindfulness" is derived from Theravada Buddhism and denotes the related notions of awareness, non-reactivity, non-judgment, curiosity, and non-attribution (i.e., not automatically applying meaning to an event, feeling or circumstance).  Due to the popularity of writings by Kabat-Zinn and others, mindfulness has proliferated the fields of mental health, medicine and spirituality.  In the next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on Saturday, July 18, 2015 (12:00 to 1:15 PM), I will provide attendees with questionnaires designed to assess their level of mindfulness in two specific areas of experience, i.e., the intrapsychic and the interpersonal.  To register to attend this group on Saturday, July 18, please see the directions below.

The Men's Group: Regret

Regret is a complex psychological experience that is often viewed as something to be avoided, i.e., "live with no regrets" has become a cultural mantra.  However, in the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, July 18, 2015 (10:45 AM to 12:00 PM), I will unpack the phenomenon of regret and make a case for its being an emotional capacity that needs to be affirmed and cultivated.  Additionally, the relationship between regret and non-meaning will be described; for some experiences and circumstances, those that are especially traumatic or distressing, meaning cannot be found and regret cannot be anchored in a precise lesson to be learned or truth to be recognized.  If you are so inclined, you may want to review my recent presentation on regret. To register to attend this group on Saturday, July 18, please see the directions below.
