MABLETON IMPROVEMENT COALITION

NEWSLETTER

July 16, 2015

From the President...

It's not often that MIC gets involved with the Cobb County budget, but this year, the MIC Board voted to support three proposals made by our District Commissioner Lisa Cupid. All three are good for Mableton and we urge you to express your support too.

All three items address issues that you have raised consistently on our Facebook page, at public meetings and in conversation with us, that is the, appearance of Mableton, code enforcement and acts/performances at the Mable House Amphitheater. Specifically, one proposal would double the frequency of roadside mowing, so that that grass and weeds would not overtake our sidewalks and roadsides during the summer. Another measure would add another code enforcement officer, so that items like junk cars, illegal signage, litter and outside storage on private property, and noncompliant uses could be addressed more quickly and consistently. The third proposal would restore pre-recession funding the the Amphitheater, so that we can again enjoy high quality entertainment that puts our community on the map.

Click here to read the 2015-2016 Budget Fact Sheet. There you will find more information about each proposal and the email addresses for the County Commissioners.

This past Saturday, MIC teamed up with the Austell Community Task Force and the Powder Springs Task Force to raise funds and collect supplies for the benefit of the Sweetwater Mission. Our thanks to Sweetwater Mission for the good work that they do in our community and our thanks to those of you who contributed your time and/or supplies to them!

The next few weeks are full of fun events here in Mableton. I hope to see you there! In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to me for questions or comments. I am always ready to talk about Mableton!

Sincerely,

Let's Clean Up Mableton!
Saturday, July 25th at 9am

MIC's next Adopt-a-Mile will be Saturday, July 25th at 9:00am. We will meet in the Kroger Shopping Center parking lot area adjacent to the Autobell Car Wash on Floyd Road. Autobell will host this event and will provide refreshments for those who "finish the course".

With the first phase of the Floyd Road improvement project complete, we have returned to the segment between the Post Office and the old Rite Aid store where Floyd and Hicks Roads intersect.  With the added traffic islands, it's a bigger job than before, so your help will be greatly appreciated.

It takes only about an hour for MIC volunteers to pick up the accumulated trash and it's an hour well spent! Floyd Road will look a whole lot better when we are done. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and bring gloves if you like. We provide latex gloves, safety vests, trash bags, bottled water -- and a warm welcome.

Please contact Dave McDaniel if you are planning to participate or if you have any questions/concerns.
