MIC Community Meeting
Tuesday, November 11th, 7pm

Please mark your calendars and come to MIC's final public meeting of 2014 at the South Cobb Community Center, 620 Lions Club Drive in Mableton.  At this meeting, we will focus on education with speakers from the Mableton Alliance for Children and Schools (MACS) and the Harmony Leland Foundation.  We can all learn more about how we can support our local schools.

Also, we are going to have folks from Vinings Lake Church, Family Life Restoration Center, Sweetwater Mission, the Kiwanis Chapter of South Cobb, and the Boys & Girls Club of Mableton.  Each organization will talk to us about their work in the community. In addition, each one will talk to the audience how the residents of Mableton can help those amongst us who are in need.  Remember to bring a personal hygiene item that we are going to be collecting that night and giving to Sweetwater Mission.

Questions?  Contact Joel Cope via email or at (404) 550-0475.

Hooper-Turner House Threatened with Demolition
Monday, November 10th at 6pm

Please come to the Cobb County Historic Preservation Commission meeting on November Hooper Turner House new 10th to show your support for the historic Hooper-Turner House.  The City of Smyrna, which owns the house, is planning to demolish it.  But, first the matter goes before the Historic Preservation Commission.  Although their decision is not binding on the City of Smryna, MIC and the River Line Historic Area are hoping that a show of public support will save this important landmark from demolition. The Commission meeting is at 6pm at 100 Cherokee St., adjacent to the Marietta Square, in the 2nd floor Board of Commissioners meeting room.

Additionally, MIC is urging supporters of the house to attend the Smyrna City Council meeting on the Monday, November 17th at 7:30 pm at City Hall, 2800 King St, Smyrna.  We need folks to speak during the public comment period to urge the City to reconsider the vote to demolish the Hooper-Turner House.

Community Meeting about New Subdivision
Thursday, November 13th at 7pm
Owners of the property around New Harvest Baptist Church at 1337 Old Alabama Road are planning a new subdivision.  Everyone is invited to attend a community meeting at the church on Thursday, November 13th at 7pm to learn more about the development.

You can see the site plan online here.  Click here to see the preliminary application on file with the county. The application submitted by Zero One LLC calls for 43 homes on the 18-acre parcel.  The application will be heard by the Planning Commission on December 2nd in Marietta. This meeting here in Mableton is a great chance to ask questions, provide your input and learn more.

You can contact the property owner, Danny Kay, at (770) 435-0332 or via email. If you'd like to share your thoughts with MIC, please contact Robin Meyer, MIC's Zoning Committee Chair.
