Play and Mindfulness Strategies:
Helping Children Overcome Anxiety
Workshop Description
 "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning.  But, for children, play is serious learning, Play is really the work of childhood.” – Fred Rodgers

Attend this workshop to be stimulated to think more critically about utilizing various play and mindfulness strategies with children. You will receive an overview of the modalities, as well as the impact of the mind/body connection on the therapeutic work. Participants will take part in hands-on activities to learn techniques appropriate for rapport building, assessment, and meeting a variety of therapeutic goals

Learning Objectives
     Participants will be able to: 
  1. Participants will understand the basic components of play therapy and mindfulness for working with children.
  2. Participants will receive an overview of the mind-body connection and neurological underpinnings impacting children and adolescents.
  3. Participants will understand how to implement some activities and strategies for assessment, rapport building and other therapeutic goals.

Speaker Victoria Grinman, LCSW

Victoria Grinman is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working at The Summit School in Queens, New York, with children experiencing a broad range of special needs. Victoria is an adjunct professor at Adelphi University School of Social Work and a doctoral candidate with a research focus in post-traumatic growth, resilience and autism. She is also the owner of Growing Kind Minds, a forum for dissemination of services and information for parents and caregivers in the community. As a trained Yoga and Mindfulness instructor for children and adolescents, Victoria is passionate and committed to integrating these practices into her work and looking for new ways to facilitate growth and wellness in children, adolescents and their families. She is a member of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work.

Tuition will be refunded less a $5.00 processing fee, if written notification is received by New York Therapy Placement Services up to two weeks prior to the workshop. Two weeks to 48 hours prior to the workshop date 50%; 48 hours prior to workshop, no refund would be available.
