Alamo Colleges' New Mobile GO Center Takes College to the Streets
Students can apply for college and financial aid and explore career opportunities in the Alamo Colleges' Mobile GO Center.
The new Alamo Colleges Mobile GO Center, an innovative "one-stop enrollment center on wheels," is on the road this summer, with scheduled stops at a wide range of community organizations. The Mobile GO Center - which travels around the city with information on and assistance with preparing for college, applying for admission and exploring financial aid opportunities - is the second for the Alamo Colleges.

The first, made possible through a 2008 grant of $137,370 from the Texas Pioneer Foundation, has already made free higher education resources available to almost 46,000 participants. The foundation's second grant in 2015 of $127,929 provided for the new trailer. For more information and reservations, click here or email dst-mobilegocenter@alamo.edu.

Alamo Colleges - San Antonio College student Dominic Ochoa will work for NASA as a summer intern.

An Alamo Colleges -  San Antonio College (SAC) engineering student is spending his summer working for the people with the Right Stuff. Sophomore Dominic Ochoa will work for NASA at the Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio as part of its 10-week summer internship program. Ochoa participated in SAC's Undergraduate Research Program through SAC's Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement Center.

Ochoa has also been an active participant in SAC's RE-ENERGIZE grant partnership with Texas State University and the SAC Motor Sport club, which is working to create a hydrogen fuel cell car.

As an intern, Ochoa will lend support to NASA missions by engaging in authentic NASA-related, mission-based research and development and career-related activities under the guidance of mentors.

Alamo Colleges' Volunteers Help Out at Habitat for Humanity

Recently, more than 25 Alamo Colleges' employees and their families rolled up their sleeves to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity-San Antonio. The event was coordinated by the Alamo Colleges' District Staff Council to encourage Community Engagement, one of the six core values of the Alamo Colleges.

Volunteers met in the early hours of the morning to assist with home construction in the Coleman Ridge subdivision. Their work included assembling cabinets, installing floor tiles and baseboards, positioning door frames, setting up outdoor gutters and a variety of other tasks. The goal, which was to complete the construction of the last two Habitat homes in the Coleman Ridge neighborhood, was accomplished by the afternoon.
