CAMPUS NEWS
Mission Trip 2016

What an experience! This year's MCC mission trip went to Rockcastle County in eastern Kentucky over Spring Break. This area is one of the poorest in the state. Ten students and four chaperones participated. This year we worked through an organization called the Christian Appalachian Project. We split up into two groups and our mission was to work on elderly housing. The group that I was in, worked on a house of a couple that has been married for 57 years! The wife, Juanita, is in a wheelchair and has dialysis two to three times a week. Unfortunately, Juanita's wheelchair did not fit through the door. It was difficult seeing her come home the first day and see her get up out of her wheelchair on one side of the door and fall into a recliner on the other side. We built a deck, a new ramp, and enlarged the door. It was so satisfying to see on our last day, Juanita coming back from dialysis and able to wheel her chair right through the door. She was so grateful to us, but that's not the whole story. In a way, I believe that we were more grateful for her and her husband, Charles. We were able to talk with them and have lunch with them and I feel that they left as big an impression on us as we did on them.

-Matt Koczur, Campus Minister
The students from the class of 2016 were awarded $2,718,419 in scholarships. Of that amount, $920,884 was accepted.  97% of the class will be pursuing advanced education or training.  Click here to see a list of graduates, colleges and scholarships.

Thank you & Farewell Bridges Family!

How do you spend 10 years at a school and have four kids and none of them graduate from that school? That is my situation. I am writing this as I prepare to leave for another Catholic school community with my wife, Marcia, and four kids. And although none of us are MCC Alums, we will definitely always have this wonderful school community in our blood, in our hearts and in our minds. I know I have not seen everything, but I have seen enough to know that the Muskegon Catholic family is strong enough to persevere for many generations to come. So, until next time,...."May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sunshine warm your face, the rain fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Happy Retirement Janet Grevious!
I can't believe I am retiring! I have worked since I have been 17 years old and it feels like you are never going to retire. I have to say, I think I am finally ready and I am looking forward to a slower lifestyle, but some people claim I'll be busier than ever!

My background - after I graduated from WMU, I taught math at Oakwood Junior High in Kalamazoo (the teachers called it Jokewood - not very respectful), but it was very difficult and challenging at an intercity school, 7 th and 8 th graders. I only lasted 3 years and then I went into business (accounting) for many years. After Emily was born, I decided to go back to school and get my elementary certification. While I did that I was also subbing and fell in love with St. Michael school, where I eventually began my "third" career. And now, 15 years later, I will finally retire.

I love MCC - the kids, the parents, and my fellow teachers - ok, even the administrators! I know most people say this, but it is the people I will miss the most. The work is also very exciting, challenging, frustrating, and rewarding all rolled into one big job. It has been my honor and pleasure to work with all of you and I'm sure I will be stopping in for visits!
Thank you to all who were able to attend, over 300 guests, or sent your well wishes to Mr. Henry Salisz on his retirement.
