Our case of the month is "Hunter" Siwak, an 8 year old male German Shepherd Dog.
What started out as a lameness with the left rear limb progressed quickly to paraparesis. After a battery of tests (radiographs, ultrasound, MRI, multiple joint taps, arthrotomy lavage, and more) a diagnosis of septic arthritis in the left rear hip was arrived at by the referring veterinarian. However, this did not explain why Hunter stopped using his right rear limb. Hunter had become completely paraparetic. Following the diagnosis and aggressive antibiotics, therapy was started at TOPS, and Hunter's improvement began. Still a work in progress, Hunter is showing remarkable improvement, and is beginning to walk again without assistance.
