National Newsletter - June 2016

There's nothing more gratifying than attending a TTN event and witnessing what happens with our members get together.  Whether it's a transition peer group where members are talking about substantive matters,a WIT workshop where they are figuring out their own stage of transition or a pot luck supper where everyone contributes to the fun.

But nothing prepared me for the sheer joy of the women in our Long Island Chapter as they gathered this past Wednesday to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the LI Chapter, the final arrival of spring, and each other.  Three hundred twenty-five (325!!) members gathered at the Woodbury Country Club on a stunningly beautiful day.  Committee members had decorated the room with flowers, personally assembled thoughtful gift bags and assembled a nice selection of vendors so we could all scratch our shopping itch.

Members of the Board of Directors and I were honored to be included in the celebration.  We were warmly welcomed and treated to the delicious lunch.  After a few very short "speeches" the event organizers gave away over 35 gifts and prizes to raffle winners.  Alas, I was not among those winners.

But on that day, I, along with over 325 'winners' fully appreciated the value of being part of the community we have built.  The chapter has extraordinary leadership in Marlene Gerber and their steering committee members.  I know they saw the result of their hard work on the faces of the women attending.

Congratulations to the Long Island Chapter for 10 years of bringing women together.

Barbara Schreibman (New York Chapter) will begin her first term on July 1 and Amy Kotkin (Washington DC Chapter) will join the Board on January 1, 2017.  Along with our other eleven members, Barbara and Amy will provide leadership, direction, and support as we continue to enhance the experience of our members, develop strong chapter leaders, and position TTN for continued growth.

Please join us in thanking Barbara and Amy in advance for all the great work they will do on behalf of The Transition Network.
Soft Launch of New TTN Signature Program on Resilience Scheduled for Fall

We are thrilled to be engaged in final preparations to launch the newest TTN Signature Program on the subject of increasing personal resilience.  We will offer the first program in our Washington DC chapter beginning on September 10, 2016.

The subject of resilience was first introduced to TTN via Bounce-Back-Ability which was designed by University of Pennsylvania Masters students and piloted in Philadelphia.  Barbara Beizer and Nancy Reller re-imagined the whole approach and crafted it into a comprehensive program to build resilience using our own strengths and skills.

The program will consist of a half-day workshop which will introduce the concept of resilience and provide participants with a personal resilience assessment.  This is a stand-alone workshop and a prerequisite to a series of six structured, facilitated conversations for small groups of 10-12 women that follow.

Over the next few months, we will finalize the marketing of this new program, including giving it a name!  Stay tuned for more information on when it will be coming to your chapter.
TTN Presenting at Positive Aging Conference

TTN will be featured among the presenters at the Positive Aging Conference showcasing two TTN-designed programs.

Barbara Beizer will present a mini version of our very popular Women in Transition Workshop.  She premiered this version of the sessions at eh ASA Conference this past March.  This 60-90 version helps attendees understand the process of transition.  It also introduces them to The Transition Network and what we do to support women through the changes occurring at this stage of life.

Mona Kreaden will present with Christine Kennedy on TTN-Home: A Housing Options Journey.  This session will focus on housing - the choices and issues --- as well as a process for choosing where and what "home" will support personal positive aging.

The conference is in Washington DC on August 26-27th.   Click here for more information and to register to attend.
