There's nothing more gratifying than attending a TTN event and witnessing what happens with our members get together. Whether it's a transition peer group where members are talking about substantive matters,a WIT workshop where they are figuring out their own stage of transition or a pot luck supper where everyone contributes to the fun.
But nothing prepared me for the sheer joy of the women in our
Long Island Chapter as they gathered this past Wednesday to celebrate the
10th Anniversary of the LI Chapter, the final arrival of spring, and each other. Three hundred twenty-five (325!!) members gathered at the Woodbury Country Club on a stunningly beautiful day. Committee members had decorated the room with flowers, personally assembled thoughtful gift bags and assembled a nice selection of vendors so we could all scratch our shopping itch.
Members of the Board of Directors and I were honored to be included in the celebration. We were warmly welcomed and treated to the delicious lunch. After a few very short "speeches" the event organizers gave away over 35 gifts and prizes to raffle winners. Alas, I was not among those winners.
But on that day, I, along with over 325 'winners' fully appreciated the value of being part of the community we have built. The chapter has extraordinary leadership in
Marlene Gerber and their steering committee members. I know they saw the result of their hard work on the faces of the women attending.
Congratulations to the Long Island Chapter for 10 years of bringing women together.
