"I aspire to be as good a man as my dog thinks I am."

Man's Best Friend
After many years in the high rise, I decided to move my office to our guest house. I love it. It's quiet, it's beautiful, and I have a forty-second commute, round trip. My assistants like it too. And there's one less car on the 405, everyday.

But one of the best things about working from home is that our dog, Rayfee, comes out to visit. There is something wonderfully calming about having a dog sleeping nearby, while you're working. He's here with me now, as I write this post.

Rayfee loves to come out for a visit. I know when he's there because, instead of knocking, he swipes a paw against the door, just once. And I get up and let him in. Unless I am standing aside, the moment I open the door, he'll run into me.

You see, he is there to see not only me. My assistant Eileen's desk is in a straight line from the door in the photo above. And Rayfee heads there like a rocket, because she gives him a nice pat and has a box of dog treats on her bookshelf.

A few weekends ago, I was out in the backyard with Rayfee. When I was ready to go back into the house, I called him but he didn't come. So I went looking for him. And there he sat with his nose to my office door, waiting for Eileen to let him in and give him a treat.

He didn't know it was Saturday, when she isn't there. So I took the picture, let him in and gave him a treat anyway, because, after three years of working from home, he has me pretty well trained.
