The New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) is now accepting applications for 2016-17 Community-Based Projects. NHSP supports projects led or inspired by seniors which address one or more of the following five program objectives:

• promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations;
• engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others;
• expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse;
• supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors; and
• providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors.

The Alberta Centre for Active Living loans pedometer kits to health promotion and workplace wellness practitioners in Alberta. Kits have either 36 or 18 pedometers. The standard loan period is one month, there is no charge for borrowing the kits and the kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Too often organizations don't think about the attitudes, beliefs and actions that expose their organizations to risks. These risks may include the actions of staff and volunteers, interactions on social media, lack of training for leaders and volunteers and how failing to screen for characteristics or "fit" can open volunteers and the organization up to risk. This webinar is designed to help attendees identify soft risks in their organization and give them the tools to make changes to processes and culture to minimize and address these risks.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, and working with a professional team of staff, the Executive Director is responsible for the leadership of the organization, and the oversight of all operations, finances and relationships.

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Leadership experience in the human services field
• Business and financial acumen
• Government relations experience would be an asset

SEESA is seeking an Administrative Assistant to work July 11 to August 26, 2016.

Duties:

• Update an inventory database. Items included in this inventory will be office and building furniture, general equipment, costumes and props.
• Work on the Front Desk including answering the phone and greeting members as they arrive in the centre, processing payment for membership, clubs or classes, writing receipts and recording the transaction.
• Order monthly WeCan food baskets as well as weekly order and inventory Meals on Wheels frozen meals and SAGE Savories & office supplies
• Scan paper documents to files on the office server. While performing this project, the procedure will need to be recorded and written in easy to follow instructions for future users.
• Assist with the data collection and recording of surveys. This may include phone calls, interviews, emails etc. The summary of the data collected will also need to be recorded.

Requirements:

• A good strong command of the English language written and spoken is necessary.
• A solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, and Publisher) is required.

Two online public surveys are now open for Albertans to provide feedback on legislation related to access to nursing homes, home support services (e.g., light housekeeping, laundry), meal requirements, meeting the needs of caregivers and more. The surveys will be open until midnight on July 31.

The surveys are part of the review of the Nursing Homes Operation Regulation and Nursing Homes General Regulation (under the Nursing Homes Act), and the Co-ordinated Home Care Program Regulation (under the Public Health Act).
